What do you think of Japanese Beer?

    And I'm talking Asahi, Kirin, or Sapporo. Draft or bottle.

    I can't imagine seeing anything else in the hands of a Japanese salary man, it sort of goes hand in hand. They always drink it in a frosty glass before dinner, and say "Umai!"

    I personally can't mentally get around drinking any other beer while eating Japanese food. It just seems to pair so well.

    And if so, which supposedly tastes the best?

    I've always been partial to Sapporo. I remember my first visits to Tokyo in the late 90's and the ubiquitous beer vending machines. I believe they've done away with most (if not all) of them by now.

    For me, there's nothing like an ice cold Sapporo during a shabu shabu dinner, particularly with spicy broth.

    Similar flavor/attributes to the mass produced stuff we can buy here in the states, not very interesting. I will say they make coffee in a can that is fantastic!!

    Not a big fan of the beers you listed, on the other hand some of the best brews I've ever had have come from Japanese brewers such as: Hitachino Nest, Baird, Yo-Ho and Coedo.

    Next time you're having a Japanese meal give Yo-Ho's Yona Yona Pale Ale a try and you may never go back to the macro Japanese Lagers again.

    Agreed Doktor....I just got back from living in Korea and made a few trips to Japan and made sure to visit the Baird Taproom in Harajuku (Tokyo) and boy do they make some great beers. Very cool sitting in a Japanese brew pub in the middle of Tokyo seating little servings of yakitori (skewers of meat etc..)

    Of course over here we only get their BMC equivalent, with some exceptions, but I do like some of the Hitachino beers we get here in the US.
