Sunday Thought for the day: Why do you drink beer?

For me it is for sure two fold, first of all I like the taste but that is a given, I drink beer because it gives me an excuse to hang out with people and be social. This can be any kind of beer, when I am out at a bar with friends I really don't care what is in the pitcher, MGD, Pabst, Bud or a Craft IPA. I am there to relax kick back and have some fun and the beer is just a good lubrication.

Then there is the craft brew aspect of it and really this is the thrill portion. Finding a beer you have never tried and it is amazing, introducing some one else to a beer they have never tried. Finding that dusty bottle of Stout at an out of the way liquor store or scoring the hard to get bottle, all of this drives the craft brew portion. The flavors are amazing and there is so much the great brewers can do with a few ingrediants that you really never know what is in that next brown bottle. You then get to share those experiences with others that will appreciate them.

So for me beer has to real distinct aspects and a reason why I can drin a Bud and be happy and the next day brea into a Funkwerks and be just as happy.

    What are your thought,

Beer as a comodity - social lubricant. Drives conversation. It puts people in position to have great conversation. Not talking about getting drunk and running your trap.

Craft beer - does the above but doubles as a good experience by itself. Taste helps.

I drink beer strictly for the taste. It makes bad days better and good days great.

Hedonic pleasure for me. Fuck social lubrication. Drinking is always better at home anyway.

75/25 split for me. I usually prefer to drink at home by myself, with my fiance and/or with close friends/family. The remaining times (when I feel social) I enjoy sparking a conversation with a complete stranger about craft beer. Great beer seems to have an uncanny ability to bring people from categorically disparate worlds together, albeit for short periods of time (which is usually my threshold anyway).

At the end of the day, taste is #1 priority.

Because real beer is a beautiful mix of art and science, created by those who are passionate about the same things as me. And because I need to keep my liver on its toes, that lazy bastard...

I'm not going to lie, I don't mind the side effect of the alcohol in beer. :grinning:

I could get that from any source...macro beer, wine, liquor, or even wine coolers (If I were a nancy boy :stuck_out_tongue:). But I have an interest and respect for the artistry in brewing craft beer. It's more experimental and open than that of wine making. Kind of blue collar and non conformist. And that plays to my nerdy and inquisitive sensibilities. I like the easy going attitude of the community as well. Not to mention it tastes awesome.

Craft beer is just a good fit for me. I like to get lit to a good fit.

I drink for the taste and the enjoyment. Not really in it to get drunk anymore.

I agree, the only exception is cracking open a cold brew at the beach and listening to good music watching the kids play and just hanging out. That killer IPA and Myrtle Beach is something I work hard all year to enjoy.

Sounds great too. Just no social lubrication is the main thing.

It helps me have sex. Well, it helps the woman have sex with me, I should say

Other than that...it's the taste, the variety, the art. But I'd prefer having a nice beer(s) with close friends rather than a room full of strangers.
Still, having a brew with a stranger and conversing can be fun, too.
As I rarely drink wine or liquor, beer is my staple.
