What is a beer you love to the core, but its just too f**king expensive to get regularly?

This doesn't apply to super well off beer advocate members, but I can't imagine their fridges are filled with $17 bottles of Lost Abbey beers. I'm a grad student and don't make that much, but I'm such a sucker for 22oz bottles and imported Belgian ales. I don't mind paying for stuff like that occasionally, but if I was a doctor or something I'd drink $5 12oz tripels all the time. Clearly more expensive does not automatically correlate with better quality, but there are a ton of exceptionally good beers that cost $0.50+ per fluid once. So I ask the readers of this forum; is there a beer you really love, but it just bites at your wallet too much to get frequently?

There are a ton. The Abyss ($17) and variants ($24). Prairie Bomb! comes to mind. Chimay Blue was $4.50 a 12 ounce last year and is now $7.99 for some reason. It is sadly not in my fridge often. Adroit Theory makes possibly the best plain RIS I've ever had in Dia De Los Muertos, but at $14 with no additives or barrel aging it's too much.

I'll even throw in a lower abv beer: Allagash White. It drives me crazy that they charge typical $9.99 6 pack prices for a 4 pack. I just bought two 4 packs for the first time in a long time. However, I would buy a shit ton of it if they would just sell it in 6 packs with a slight mark up. It is hard to justify purchasing with my current budget. Anyways, I listed more than one beer, but like I said, there are a ton.

Easy one for me, all of the beers from Maine Beer Co. (BRING BACK WEEZ) and most of the beers imported from Belguim.

Sinclecut. Grimm. Maine, are the best examples of a price range including many others priced too high for my taste. Love 'em, won't pay that price.

Commercial Suicide by Jester King. It runs $9 a 750, 2.9% English Dark Mild. I guess I shouldn't bitch, that isn't but like $4.50 a pour, but I just can't bring myself to buy it more consistently because that is like a 6 pack of any other beer.

Prairie Pirate Bomb and Pirate Noir at $10 to $12 each. If I could get it year-round and if it were more reasonably priced, I wouldn't drink anything else, not even water. So, I tend to drink other BA beers that are a lot cheaper, under $5. I stock up on Pirate Bomb/Noir when I can find it, but have to pace myself so I have it year-round.

    Prairie.

Bourbon Paradise was around $15 a 12oz bottle around here. Absolute delight of a beer from the pour to the last sip, but the price makes that beer difficult to bring a bottle home.

For me it's a guy who can order a case of Cascade delivered to his house, and get his Bruery HS allotment, and it doesn't break the weekly beer budget.

I've never tried a single one of their beers just due to price alone. I bet they're good, but damn. One bottle is going to put a strain on my budget.

Crazy thing is you can get their stuff at the brewery for under 20 Euros a bottle, but as soon as it crosses that threshold out of there - the mark-up is insane. Even shops just a mile away from the brewery feature a hearty mark-up.

There is no need to pay $14.00 a bottle for Chimay in North NJ. Easy to find for less than $12,00.

Avery is similar to Prairie -- their BA beers like Tweak, Uncle Jacob's, etc -- I think the lowest price I've seen for those is $14 for a $12 oz bottle.

Duchesse de Bourgogne is one of the few "perfect score" beers for me, and mild enough that I would totally drink it more if it costs less. I don't mind other favorites like Uncle Jacob's Stout or J. W. Lees costing more because they aren't beers I'd want to drink often anyway.

I have been lucky enough to have a friend who can get it . I also have broken down if I see if on Craft Beer Kings once in awhile. i always think damn this is expensive but it tastes sooo good. I figure I also may spend $16 on a four pack I do not like so may as well treat myself sometimes to beer I love.

I'd drink traditional Trappist beer every day, if I could, but those sessions would get expensive. Same goes for other Belgian Abbey style beers.

I recently picked up a case of Jever for around $42, which is pretty reasonable for around here.

I frequently consider seeing if I can get a case discount on Schlenkerla beers, because I don't get them as frequently as I'd like at $5 a pop.

The folks I do business around here are more than happy to order a full case of beer for me since they know I'll be buying the whole case from them. So far they've succeeded and the per bottle/can price of the case has always been less than the price of a single bottle/can off the shelf.

That is pretty good. You still have places that discount for cases? Not many case-selling retailers around here anymore. The sixers all get shelved.

Chimay is one, love it but the price keeps them to special occasions.
Prairie is the other, like the beer but the cost is way too high to enjoy them all the time.
