Also where is your coworker headed? The selection in SD versus LA of certain beers can vary significantly.

 

Or....you could tell us what you want and we could say a collective yay/nay or point in right direction.

Based on what you just said, I'd recommend having him grab Black Butte XXIV and Firestone DDBA (both of which should still be pretty easy to find on shelves), some of the Russian River sours + Pliny and Blind Pig if available, Lost Abbey's Red Barn, Port's Mongo and Hop 15 (if you can find recent bottlings without sediment- this is a big if).

Alpine is my biggest recommendation, though finding bottles even in SD is always tricky.

Which spans hundreds of miles Is he heading to Ventura Country, Orange County, LA County, San Diego County, Inland empire, etc.? Asking since there are bottle shops & or breweries across all of that area, with varying selection, stock, etc. We can direct you to depending on where abouts.

There are 4 good spots to shop for beer at in Orange.

#1 Hollingshead = Best selection, but most expensive

#2 Bruery Provisions = Great selection, cheaper than #1

#3 BevMo = Good selection, cheaper than #2

#4 Wine Exchange = Good selection, cheapest of all spots, also...they tend to have gems you can't find elsewhere because they are not as well known of a beer location as the other spots.

 

The fact that their web page says absolutely nothing about beer might have something to do with that.
