What is the hype behind barrel aging?

    Rum barrel is the next barrel aging to really catch on. More subtle sweet notes and less boiler maker burn.

    I wholeheartedly disagree with your assessment of rum, though it's obviously subjective. I find rum the spirit and rum barrel-aging a lot more harsh than bourbon. It's this weird combination of overly sweet and acetone flavors that I get out of rum, the worst of both worlds. That said, I think different barrels as a whole (not necessarily rum) will catch on more.

    I drink beer. I drink bourbon. I drink bourbon barrel aged beer. Don't knock it if you don't like it, it's just taste preference.
