Nice haul there - I shutter to think what the price was if they were purchased on the collector's market - after searching for full BBA's for decades, I finally found some when eBay started up in the late 1990s but dropped out of the bidding when they started going for over $100 at the turn of the century. But that's the beauty of a gift - price is no object.

Got a name on the left side one? Can't make it out, and I've been trying to keep a running list of recipients.

"Fin, Fur and Feathers Club" bottles have turned up before - and they seem to have been on the list for several years in the 1960s (I've seen a 1966 bottle and read a review of another IIRC). I've seen references to the club being in Chicago but there is also one down in affluent "horse country" in central Jersey - http://www.fffnj.com/ "since 1932" - wouldn't be odd if the Badenhausens had friends in that area, living a bit further north.

A lot of article on BBA discuss how it is among the "rarest" beers but, man, have there been a lot of bottles turn up in recent years. I've always wondered why that is - did Ballantine recommend further aging (I've found boxes with address labels, no but paperwork that might have been included or sent separately)? Or was it just so "different" that it got stuck away in a corner only to be - luckily- rediscovered decades later? Certainly some bottles survived in the collections of the early beer geekery that existed before the "craft" era. Fritz Maytag shared a bottle from his cellar with Michael Jackson, resutling in one of the earliest mentions of the beer (by then, gone for over two decades) in the latter first US Pocket Guide to Beer. The hop growing family which runs Segal Farms were recipients, too, IIRC. But one would think those bottles don't reach the secondary "collector" market.

These I got from a bottle collector in NJ - he posted them on eBay 18 months ago but they got pulled down; it took us a while to arrange the sale after that. The price was not terrible. Anyway, the other one is blank - no name of a recipient printed. So I am not sure if it's one an employee snagged or what.

I just received a very nice box from The Bruery, as an unexpected and wonderful add-on for all the freelance design work I did for them this year:

They are great people and a fantastic client. If I had one or two more clients as good as them, I'd be one of the happiest designers around.

I'm particularly thrilled to have a bottle of Ride That Goat, since I was about to try trading for one. It sounds fantastic.

No beer received for Christmas (visiting in-laws in upstate NY), but I was given this beer pairing book: http://www.amazon.com/Beer-Pairing-Essential-Guide-Pros/dp/076034843X

I also made a couple of beer runs to Wegmans for some Great Lakes, Founders, and local beer that isn't available in MD so I'm heading home today with roughly two cases of beer.

My sister gave me the craft beer equivalent of coal, bless her heart but she doesn't know anything about beer. Trying to cover my disgust I wandered over to her fine built in wine cooler and ---- found a 2011 Bourbon County Stout I had given her years ago! It was delicious.
