I have a “friend” who was coming from the city to pick up some cans who asked me if I wanted anything from finback on his way out.
Normally I’d pass but when I saw the can list I caved for this root and branch DIPA collab and another beer I intend to get to later.
I know I suck at describing beers but for me this one is all finback and little root, which makes sense as it was brewed at finback. It’s really good, but not on the level of what root puts out on their own.

the other finback I had to have was coconut drip. I’ve loved loved loved the drip series and the coconut varietal was the only one that had eluded me. But to be honest, this batch is letting me down compared to others like blueberry or banana.

It's not a NE beer, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, I like you guys more than the "BIG" thread in the main forum.

Sierra Nevada Celebration. Still drinking great, one of my favorite beers.

Now fun story time. 5 or 6 years ago my old band, Ian Cat & The Crimsons (live video of us below, I'm on drums), played a show at the Midway Cafe in Jamaica Plain in Boston. Also on the bill was Dan Blakeslee, who is the guy who did the Heady Topper and Focal Banger art. He made a poster for the show and printed out some extras for the bands. So now I have a cool souvenir of a fun show with some beer crossover. Super nice guy too, turns out that my wife was friends with his cousin.

oh! This whole thing is very cool. The opening rif reminds me of “Stairway to Heaven.” Is the song original to your band?

Maybe you can kickstart the Art thread by cross posting.

Yep, it's an original song. The band broke up, unfortunately. We're all still friends, adult life just made practicing harder and harder.

It was a fun record to make, the vibe we were going for was "What if Neutral Milk Hotel and Cocteau Twins loved fuzz and Yankee Hotel Foxtrot."

Revisiting sensate now. Adjusted my original score downward this evening. Low carb… no smoke in the traditional sense. Tastes very good, but nothing memorable. Look and mouthfeel are below average for a Suarez offering. I think I said it last time, I’d much rather have While if I’m looking for a Suarez helles.
Still have a bunch of these to drink, which is fine, but I don’t see myself buying this again the next time it comes out.

    MOAR BEERS.

I have tomorrow off and I'm going to have to do a bunch of snowblowing tomorrow so I'm getting my beer on this evening.

Bldg8 - The IPA -- Still nice. Limey / citrus thing going on with a good amount of bitterness. I'm happy to see that this had a canning date on it of 11/30.

Followed by -- Sam Adams - Cold IPA -- It's fine. I literally don't know what else to say about it. It's fine.

Im bringing a New Hampshire brewery to the thread tonight! And its a hop focused beer. Yikes where did the real Sulldaddy and his stouts go?
This is Hobbs Brewing Company Cold Brook Hoppy Lager. A 5% brew that I picked up at the brewery a few weeks ago. Surprised to add this to the system when I reviewed it.

    Onto my review:
I am sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into my snifter. Can is date stamped 5/18/2022. Picked up at the brewery for $40 a case! Seemed a no brainer to buy and contribute to a wedding reception build a bar!
The beer pours a relatively clear golden hue with fluffy yet fairly dense bleached white head of 2.5 cm foams up. This foam fades to a sturdy edge layer and surface covering that sticks around throughout the sampling. Creates some scattered lattice when swirled or sipped.
The aroma on this is hop forward with citrus notes dominant. I get some oranges and lemons mixing with a bit of rindy pith notes and only hints of grainy malts in the background.
First sip reveals a medium to light body with fine tingly carbonation. Texture is smooth and maybe a little thin feeling, finish is very dry after each swallow.
Flavor is what I expect after the aroma advertising, just a hint of sweet cereal malt and then lemon and some orange mix with pithy grapefruit rind that leaves an astringent bite on the finish of each swallow. The lingering bitterness is the flavor that carries the beer. I actually find this to be a refreshing beer, much more hop bite than hop fruity. Pretty easy to drink over all.

Trivia Night at Blueprint Brewing. It was Classic Rock Name that Tune hosted by "Pops" the dad of the owner. One round each for the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s (side note: 90s rock now being played on Classic Rock radio stations makes me feel so old). He didnt make it easy, most songs were just the opening riffs, no lyrics. My wife and I are normally pretty good at this theme but we didnt win any of the rounds, a couple teams kept getting perfect scores.

Drank pints of (clockwise) the Hazy Waves IPA, Schnitzel Vienna Lager, Hazel Von B Brown Ale, and Lotta Sap Milk Stout.

Hardest clip of the night was this song by a 1960s band called Strawberry Alarm Clock. Never heard of them before

back with a second one tonight, after watching Kittle almost destroy me in fantasy NFL playoffs, but Im still okay.
This is Troegs Grand Cacao stout. 6.5%. Last beer for tonight, but will see you back here tomorrow!

    onto my review:

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz bottle poured into my snifter. Date stamp is freshest by 3292022. Beer has been in my cellar for about a year.
The beer pours a deep cola brown but the beer is not quite completely opaque. A creamy beige colored head of 1 cm foams up and sticks around as a sturdy surface covering. Some dense lattice forms on the swirls or sips of beer.
The aroma is roasted malt and dark chocolate, almost a bakers chocolate note. Maybe a little grassy hop balance.
First sip reveals a medium body and soft texture with gentle rolling carbonation.
Flavor is roasted malts, a little coffee ground and some dark chocolate. No hint of ABV and hops are a mild grassy or plant like note.
this is a solid straightforward stout. Glad to have tried it and enjoying the roast character on this beer.

Huh! So THAT’s who sang that song. My wife knew who they were. She nonchalantly said, “Yeah, they did Incense and Peppermints.” I recognized the song immediately, but had no idea the title, or band.

    Delaware is almost Northeast, right?

Dogfish Head - Wake Up World Wide Stout -- This drinks absurdly easy for the ABV. The cold brew coffee is definitely present. Really nice big beer. Great for a stormy vacation day.
