Got this from a friend at work today. Never had this version of treat, and I must say it’s tasting great this evening!

Honorary NE beer right? Awesome bock, really dry finish with a perfect malt start. Gutted to hear about Terry Hall passing. Just another music legend gone. RIP. It’s gonna be a Specials night.

    The quintessential Specials song.

Down to one hoppy TH left. Sometimes I prefer these types with a little “age” because this is really mellow and a lot of orange. A bit muted, but no worries there.

I can’t have a night of Specials songs and not have this one in. The horns on this song are legendary.

Ton of peanut butter. Wow on rehearsal blueberry. Was a little nervous about the age, but no worries at all. Still thick and proper carb too.

Probably my favorite of the bunch.

Surfer Rosa - Oxbow cross-posted from the Saison thread.

Muddy yellow with a short lived ivory froth. The head is somewhat transient and leave thin webbing over a thick ring.

The aroma opens as lemony salt marsh, followed by coriander and faint white pepper. Some orange works its way out as it warms, along with a mild floral sensation. Earthy bread dough become obvious and acts as a background drone for the duration.

It’s more bitter than anticipated with dryness being pronounced. A mild sour/tartness becomes earthy, while coriander and lime fill the voids. The finish is very strong, too strong, as it overwhelms both the delicate and the pronounced flavors. All except the dryness. Warmth continuously amplifies the marsh-brine.

The body is light with the soft texture of angora wool (furr?). The alcohol is surprisingly noticeable, all-be-it mild. The carbonation is soft and creamy, giving an overall fluffy sensation to each sip.

This is a pleasant Saison, less sessionable than as an accent to the afternoon. My imagination wants to try it with crab cakes and a salad composed of roasted corn and peppers with feta in the mix. Closing my eyes, I’m transported to a sunny August on the shores of the lower Chesapeake Bay. (Too much? ;-)

From ME to PA in a flash.

    Shoe-Fly Pie - Lancaster

Well… It’s got the flavors right. Lots of charred sugar and molasses.

Truth be told, I’m enjoying it. And if anyone wants an example of a Porter that can’t be confused with a Stout. Here ya go.

I picked up a 12 pack of the Yards "Rumble Pack" box to add some more hoppy beers to the fridge before a get together with friends that mostly drink IPA, but also to try 2 of the 4 beers I haven't had before - the DIPA, and the Black IPA.

This is the DIPA, called Very Mega. I like this much more than the two hazy IPAs that Yard has (Level Up and Star Jockey). Much more of an old school DIPA - its got a bright hop aroma, it's a little boozy, good balancing bitterness, sticky mouthfeel.

In Canton for work (headed to Row34 then the Bruins game tonight), so when in Rome, with a hotel room literally down the road, one goes to Trillium.

Death Mettle -- Surprisingly drinkable TIPA. Overripe fruit, just enough bitterness. Delicious.

Tequila Barrel Aged Night + Day -- Imperial stout with coffee aged in tequila barrels. Am I proud of how much I spent on this 5oz pour? Absolutely not. Was it delicious? Absolutely. Roasty and coffee notes upfront which fade to a lovely bright tequila finish. Wish I could get a bottle of this.
