Same beer, different day. Did I say holiday travel? Well, Covid had its plan for me, the second time in less than three months. This would likely be the only beer I have tonight.

It’s been a minute so here’s an update. One too many dishwasher visits has taken its toll on my OG R&B glass, the lettering is starting to leave. This new IPA is delish!!!
I haven’t been on the thread all week but fear not, I’ve been drinking lol. Holiday parties and such…no time for posting. Been messing around with cocktails this week, which is decidedly not my thing but all good, no issues.

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season!!

Brand new imperial brown ale R+B collab with Evil Twin. This is great. Smell is all maple but it’s much more subtle in the taste. More nutty with a touch maple. Dry finish, not sweet at all. Alcohol hidden well.

I’ve posted many times before, but the best Christmas song ever made. Killer Mike’s verse is amazing but El-P absolutely tells it like it is.

Im in Pennsylvania for the Holidays, so different glass, but still time for some Northeast beers!
This is Mast Landing Trembling Giant Doppelbock. 7.3% ABV.

    Onto my review:
Sampling a cellar temp 16 oz can poured into a snifter. I picked this beer up at the brewery in October and it has been in my cellar since then. Date stamp is 9/22/2022.
The beer pours a deep mahogany color with garnet highlights. A creamy beige head of 3 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy edge layer and one large island in the center of my glass. Dense lattice forms when I swirl the glass or take a sip.
the aroma is caramel and some toffee, with no hop character and not any booze hints either. Maybe a little dark fruit, but general sort of straightforward aroma.
First sip reveals a medium body with fairly soft and rolling carbonation. texture is smooth and very drinkable.
Flavor is similar to the nose. Lots of caramel and toffee malt, hints of brown sugar and a bit of dark fruit. No hop character and not boozy. Malty but not overly sweet.
This is a clean easy drinking malt forward doppelbock. Very easy to drink and I enjoy it. Id buy this one again.

    Happy Saturday. Cheers!

Made the trip to Tewksbury yesterday and snagged all the big hops for the holiday (Super Sap, Very Sappy, Very Hazy, Very HHH, and King JJJ).

It remains too easy of a trip even with holiday traffic. Round trip in about one way to Charlton for me.

Starting with the oldest and one of my favorites from this time last year, canned 11/29/22.

    Onto an abbreviated review:
The beer looks like dark cola with a bit of fizzy tan head comes out of the opening. Otherwise, it looks like a can. :stuck_out_tongue:
The aroma is muted as its from the can.
Roasted malts and some sweet chocolate.
Flavor is heavy with roastmalts and dark chocolate. No hops. No hints of booze.

Will try to do one more tonight after some final gifts get wrapped by Santa!

    Merry Christmas northeastern BAs!!

I was gifted club seats for the Pats game today, which I accepted reluctantly after getting an ok from the wife. One of the "No...yes...no" games for sure! On top of a "losing all feeling in my toes" games.

Anyway, had a Sip of Sunshine with the obvious stadium food of lobster BLT for lunch. Then grabbed a few cans from the better beer selection outside the club at the Ale House bar with the common folk.

Then got home in less than an hour (thank you holiday gameday) and enjoyed an AWFS from last year.

Im rollin up in here with a late entrant, after the gifts are wrapped, the Sully needs to recharge. SO, Barreled Souls Blackberry Jam Stay Puft it is! Definitely some adjuncts, additives, adjunks, etc added to this beer. its 12% and features marshmallow fluff, and blackberry jam.
Cross posted with the Imperial Stout Appreciation thread. Ill be back here sometime tomorrow after the gift opening chaos that will happen in about 8.5 hours!!

    onto my review:
Im sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into a snifter. Beer was bottled 5/05/2022 and I picked it up at the brewery in October earlier this year. Bottle was refrigerated at the brewery and in my cellar since.
The beer pours a rich black coffee color with a dense fluffy head of almost 3 cm foaming up. Almost over tops the glass, but clings on the edge. The foam gradually fades to a sturdy surface covering that sticks around through the tasting.
I also get dense coating lattice when I swirl the glass or take a sip.
Aroma is hot cocoa chocolate powder and some light sweetness. This mixes with mild blackberry notes, but smells sweet, not tart like some blackberries can be. No hop character and not boozy on the nose.
First sip reveals a medium body with very creamy and smooth texture. Features fine and tingly carbonation that is fairly gentle overall. Feels nice and easy drinking for a larger ABV beer.
Flavor is milk chocolate, some roasted malt, general sweet notes and a bit of blackberry in the background. Chocolate notes dominate and I kinda wish the blackberry was a little bolder, but the general sweetness could be some of the jam impacts. No hop character and the ABV is well hidden.
Pretty easy drinking imperial stout, i think Id prefer the base stay puft over this one. Not because this is bad, but the blackberry doesnt carry as much as I had hoped. The base beer doesnt build up my expectation for the blackberry.

Christmas Eve nightcap of the good stuff...a fesh 2022 bottle of Free Will Brewing's Coffee Ralphius. Aged a year in various bourbon barrels with coffee from the local roaster Speakeasy Coffee.

Tons of espresso layered on top of vanilla, caramel, oak, dark chocolate. Great balance. The 14% abv booze is well hidden. Top notch mouthfeel - full bodied and slick.

Another non dark malt forward beer from Sully. Is this a Christmas miracle?? Nope. Trying to reduce my beer stash thanks to @BigIronH reminding me about reducing beer inventory. So here I am with Fox Farm Amour Fou May 2021 bottling, a 6.5% biere de garde. Seemed sort of Christmasy with cherries so it made the trip to PA with me.
Dont worry northeast BAs, Ill be back with a stout shortly!

    Onto my review:

Pouring a cellar temp bottle into a snifter. Bottled May 2021 batch #2.
Beer pours a rich chestnut with some ruby highlights. A short lived beige fizzy head of 1 cm foams up and fades to almost nothing soon after the pour.
Aroma is mostly some red wine and a bit of tart cherry. Not sweet fruit here and not really malty nor any hop character. Sort of the nose I would expect based on the aging process.
First sip reveals a light body with very fine yet prickly carbonation. Texture is a little thin but does leave some residual coating on my lips.
Flavor is red wine bold merlot notes and some tart cherry pops in the middle. I get a bit of a sour note on the sides of my palate, but its not overly acidic. No hop notes, and not really funk or barnyard etc. ABV is hidden and the beer drinks pretty easy. I do wonder what the base would be like without wine barrels nor cherries. As I dont get much beyond those exposures in the beer.
Its a good beer, i wouldnt drink a ton of this but one bottle seems an appropriate experience.
