Forest & Main's Poor Yorick, a Dark Mild. One of the original beers that was a regular when they first opened. They've revived this one, Kinch, and Tiny Tim.

Paired well with our Indian food takeout dinner. For the last 15+ years my wife and I normally host a NYE dinner party for friends centered around themed food/drinks from a different Country each year. This year was going to be Spain, but my wife had retina surgery last week so we are just relaxing and keeping it simple tonight instead.

Big swing here, going from a 3% abv beer to a 17% abv% beer. Utopias barrel-aged World Wide Stout. Label states it as a collaboration between DFH and Boston Beer Company, so fits the NE definition.

This is a 2021 bottle that I stashed in the cellar for a year as I heard this one was a bit harshly boozy when it was fresh. Its only moderately hot in the taste, but does have a huge fruity cognac-like aroma that dominates the roasty malt flavors of normal WWS. But the finish does have some nice underlying dark cocoa notes. Thinner bodied for such a huge beer.

Nightcap of a bottle of Free Will Brewing's Ralphius (Two Year Maple). Great depth of flavor - rich maple mixed with dark chocolate, caramel, bourbon. Thick and smooth like all the variants, but not overly sweet.

Carton Disco Melodica: My buddy grabbed me a handful of NJ brews for Xmas. This reminds me of an IPA circa 2013. Really tasty. Solid bitterness. White grape candy, citrus pith, juicy but dank pine and herbs on the finish.

First beer of 2023 and starting it off right. I've always been a fan of Sap and Chinook in general. This doesn't disappoint. It starts off with some really nice grapefruit notes with Tree House's signature bubble gum softness. Finishes with a hit of oily pine that is just classic Chinook.

Tonight I enjoyed Maine Beer Company's MO. It's a solid American Pale Ale. It reminded me quite a bit of Half Acre's Daisy Cutter Pale Ale.

Ive had a lot of beers over past two days with a bit of travel and not a lot of screen time. I did take a few photos of beers, so I may circle back and post a couple with abbreviated notes. Visited a solid brewery in south central Pennsylvania so want to try to share some of that with the Northeast crew for sure.
Anyway, tonight Im back in Connecticut and Im catching up with a nice imperial stout. Imperial Oatmeal Stout from Stoneface Brewing in New Hampshire. This is an 11.7% ABV imp stout.

    onto my review:

Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter. I picked up this bottle fro the brewery in November, and its been in my cellar since then. Label only says 2021 as a date.
The beer pours a rich dark black coffee color with a frothy, yet also dense tan head of about1.5 cm. This head fades to a sturdy edge layer that remains through the sampling.
Aroma is roasted malts and dark chocolate with a bit of coffee grounds. Malt forward aroma, not sweet at all. No hop profile nor hints of the ABV. I get a little bit of anice and maybe some tobacco as the beer warms a bit. The tobacco could also be a charred note, its very faint.
First sip reveals a medium body with very smooth and silky texture and fine tingly carbonation. The beer drinks very easy for a higher ABV.
Flavor is similar to the nose. I get roasted malts, molasses, charred wood or burnt notes, some dark cacao hits too. The anice is there and maybe a little dark fruit. No hops here either. No warming booze or fusol notes to speak of.
Pretty tasty old school imperial stout. Enjoyable purchase from this New Hampshire brewery.

My first entry into the ‘23 virtual bar is a brewery I don’t have a lot from but received as a Christmas gift (mixed 12-pack) and the brown ale was one I was kinda looking forward to. It…is decent at best. Watery, kind of a cloying caramel flavor and little carbonation. I’m probably spoiled brown ale wise as the few I drink are class but this is very mediocre. Cheers though to @jmdrpi for getting us started this year!

Back to work tomorrow after about a month off with the new baby, Figured having some Tree House will help me get ready? Wonderment and Doubleganger drinking nicely now, both with a nice citrus bite to them. Might be my rested palette, haven’t been drinking hoppy beers much lately (or any for that matter!)

Forest & Main Brewing - Everywhere Again. The label says West Cost IPA brewed with Idaho 7, Huell Melon and Columbus. I would just say its a very nice IPA that isn't a NEIPA. Just got back from a 35 mile bike ride so it's hitting the spot.

One-and-done tonight. Had to go to Manhattan this morning and somehow they had this in the Threes store in Moynihan. Couldn’t really buy much and it’s from late November but I said fuck it because this is one of my favorites. Really wish I got this a month ago because the dankness already seems gone but it’s still a great beer. Decent pine, malted barley, lingering semi-dank bitter.
