Another BB offering I look forward to on a yearly basis. Went nicely with Hubby’s and the Celtics.

 

Hubby's pizza? That's a Tri-Cities staple that I've never had.

 

Hell Day at GEG is over, and I'm at Perry Street having a new (to me) IPA: Speechless, brewed with Galaxy, Wai-Iti and Vic Secret Hops, pilsener malt and flaked rice.

 

Moved on to Stone's Throw, an 11.4% English barleywine. Ridiculous drinkability and very little sign of the booziness at serving temperature.

Sadly, the name was chosen because someone threw a big rock through the window at PSB on Monday and grabbed some cash from the register.

 

Occidental Lucubrator is mighty tasty this year.



Rich, malty, satisfying, and goes great with a nice big bowl of ham beans.

 

Doppelbock?

 

The like was for the beer, and definitely not for the incident it was named for.

Yep! Not too sweet, good malt depth, a bit of roast in the finish to complement the nutty and caramel notes. At the risk of repeating myself: Satisfying.

Had a Living Haus Bethine Helles last night. They're quickly moving up the list of notable local breweries for me.

 

Our final camping trip this year. It's a beautiful Thanksgiving Day on the Oregon Coast ... about 55F, bright sun and no wind. There are a LOT of people camping here at Nehalem State Park. Smells of Traeger Smokers, campfires, multi-family meals coming together and people in a good mood all around. Happy Thanksgiving to all !

Yes! We love the beer and the can . It's about the only can you are able to identify down to the brewery AND the beer, all from a distance.

Earlier this afternoon, as Mrs. vurt and I were finishing the Thanksgiving cooking, I opened a ForeLand Cheers To the Land dry hopped lager.



It was quite nice. Crisp and snappy.

Just now, having given the meal a couple hours to settle, we decided it was time for the coconut cream pie Mrs. vurt made from scratch this morning. I wondered if a festive winter beer like Block 15 Ol' Saint Nick would go with the pie.



Turns out the answer is not just Yes, but OH HELL YES. The coconut custard pie filling meets the lush malt and dark fruitiness of the ale, and together they create a rich almond flavor on top. Marvelous.

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all NWBAs! While not really helles weather, I'm not going to say no to a new one from Heater Allen. Softer, sweeter and less snappy than the regular helles, it was near perfect for the season, and it kept growing on me thru the 3rd pint.

 

Thanksgiving meal was grilled steak with a fine Columbia Valley Cabernet.

Our after dinner treat is the Pfriem Rye Whiskey Imperial Brown Ale, a superb offering. Our camping trailer is warm and cozy -- tomorrow, the rains begin again.

 

Doing a "flying" visit to Kennewick later this a.m. for a Thanksgiving On Friday. Not sure if I'd even have the time to look, but is there any place with a decent selection of singles? Last visit to Mid Columbia was mostly a waste because everything was in 4 or 6 pks and they won't let you break them up. Told them they'd make a lot more money off of me cumulatively if they allowed folks to buy singles, but I doubt that will have changed since then.

 

It has been awhile, but the last time I was in Freddie’s (395 and 10th, Kenn) they had a build your own sixer. Had a cooler dedicated to singles. I can’t speak to the quality of choices, though. I am surprised MCWAS doesn’t do something like that. Missed opportunity.

Normally I find the better stuff at Yokes (however, their beer game at the Kenn store is slipping) and MCWAS.

Raw and rainy day. Browsing the local news, Mrs Nick noticed that our local (mostly) craft beer source, Crosscut Taproom, has come up with a keg of Chuckanut Kolsch. Beers from them are a rare find indeed down here in SW WA, not to mention our small town of Castle Rock. We ran down and grabbed a growler. It was fresh and quite tasty. Should go well with a batch of crab cakes. And not one bit of leftover turkey in sight.

You may find this hard to believe, but pFriem Cherry Brandy Barrel-Aged Belgian-Style Dark Ale is really good.



(Actually, there's probably nothing hard to believe about that.)

 

Settled down in my cozy local with a big pint and f Double Mountain ESB. On nitro.
Not to bad, relaxed drinking.

 

Second tonight a Silver Falls Nut Brown Ale.
Really lovely. Goes well with the weather.
No plans cs as my Moto can't handle this dark place

 

Not for me. Some beers can hold their own quite well in my opinion. I can’t say it’s necessarily gotten noticeably better, but I certainly wouldn’t say it has gotten worse either.

 

Home and drinking Oakshire's Ill-Tempered Gnome Winter Ale.
Very good and just as remembered. A darker hoppy winter ale ( kind of like the precursor CDAs)
And under $10 a 4 pack (16oz) in Winco.

 

I had High Camp on Tap here in Salem. It's a really a nice Winter IPA.
KInda brought sad thoughts to my mind though.
It is very similar to Ice Harbor's IWA(India Winter Ale). Very similar flavor profiles. I miss Ice Harbor's beers down here.

 

My wife had a flight of B-Bomb at Fremont yesterday, which included a '14. Seems to be holding up just fine, in my opinion.

 

B-Bomb seems to hold both it's viscosity and flavor profile extraordinarily well. I've been very impressed with older bottles I've opened recently.
