I'm at Wildwood Taphouse having a small pour of Reuben’s Three Ryes Men: Apple Pie.

I say DAMN this is a fine beer! The apple is heavy on the nose, with caramel underneath, along with a dusting of cinnamon. Flavor is somewhat inverted from the nose, with the base Three Ryes Men quite prominent and the barrel character front and center. Apple and cinnamon are relegated to a supporting role.

It all adds up to a very tasty BA barleywine which suggests apple pie around the edges. This is no pastry barleywine, and it is outstanding.

I think this is draft-only, which is kind of unfortuate, in a selfish way. I would gladly open my wallet for a bottle of this.

Far too soon to send him packing, IMHO. The team made it to the knockout round... it's not like we lost to Wales or Iran 5 nil.

Just my two cents of course, but I think it was unrealistic to expect much more than what we got out of this team.

It sounds absolutely delish. I wonder if it can be found any place else in town. The mongers has had the regular version on tap before, but not this version.

This is leftover from a Reuben’s tap takeover last Monday. (Apparently Adam and Grace from Reuben’s were there.)

I walked home out of a surplus of caution (and a paucity of public transit options in this area at this hour), but I would've been happy to stick around for a couple more 5-ounce pours. Or even a generous 8-ounce pour.

It was a cold walk there and back. And totally worth it.

Home again. I opened up a Silver City Thaw Out Winter Warmer because I needed to thaw out.

It's pretty good, bittersweet and very roasty. There's a whiff of smoke in there which adds interest.

Good lad! Here’s to the milestone, and remembering mothers everywhere. And a tasty brew— I must have one here, short on NW at the moment but maybe a Yeti will do—

pFriem’s Bourbon BA Barleywine is like liquid, boozy caramel. It’s borderline too sweet but I love it. I enjoyed Breakside’s Sweet Creature of Bombast. I do think it had one or two too many elements (I think there are 4-5 BA beers blended?) and I can’t pick out many specific flavors.

Home from work, grabbed a six pack of a "new" Widmer beer, for old times sake.
    Hopcadia NW IPA.
Had not seen it in Plaid Pantry before, so stupidly I failed to look for the hidden date.
Its 4 months old. Packaged at the start of August.
It looks good and strangely the old-style Oregon aroma is good, but alas the taste is mild and slightly garbled up, and the mouth feel the wrong side of flabby.
I think had i seen this 3 months ago it would have been a reasonable Older style IPA.
    Poor old Widmer.

It's pretty raw and boozy. I'm thinking strongly of getting another and laying it down for a couple years. The bourbon barrels absolutely dominate right now.

Binged the 2nd half of "Ted Lasso" Season 2 tonight. (Yes, we're behind. Cope.)

A layered and well-structured series required layered and well-structured beers. For Mrs. vurt and I, these included:
    • Fremont/Pizza Port Shaka IPA
    • Gigantic Most Most Premium Imperial Stout (Scotch barrel-aged)
    • Von Ebert Volatile Substance IPA
    • Stoup Whiskers Out Export Stout
    • Away Days Petr Czech Dark Lager (an excellent football pun for a "Ted Lasso" session)
    • Varietal Dammit Bobby! WCIPA
    • Von Ebert Sector 7 Hazy IPA
Been a fine evening. We started early, and are finishing late. Cheers!

I didn't do anything really. Except maybe got back to the can before too much time had transpired.

I opened it between 10 and 10:30 p.m., then finished it the next morning perhaps 11 hours later. Didn't really have a chance to go flat.

Berhalter got the USMNT back into the World Cup, and then got one of the youngest squads in the tournament into the round of 16.

I say keep him. Let's see how he does in the CONCACAF Gold Cup next year.

If there's a coach with more international experience who wants the job, let them make their case after that.

I hardly ever watch TV ever. Especially since it's expensive to get "the good stuff" these days.

I will say that "Ted Lasso" gets past my defenses faster than pretty much anything. It is uplifting. But it makes you work for it. (Maybe. I watched it with laughs and some tears.)

    It is NOT negative.

    It is rewardingly well written.

The soundtrack is mint, with some 80s, 90s, and 2000s tracks that hit perfectly.

Football knowledge is not necessary, but certainly helps on some levels.

A buddy of mine said it does a great job of making you love people, and I'm not sure I can describe it any better than that.

(I have the same idea for a few other regulars in the NW forum for next year, so watch yourselves.)

I agree with this. Berhalter has done a great job, some of his in game tactics have been suspect but overall he has moved the team forward. Now if Pep or Klopp wanted to take over thats another story but that isn't happening.

Maybe because I put the beer back in the fridge? I am not a chemist, but perhaps beer loses carbonation faster at room temperature than fridge temperature.

You may well be correct. Makes sense, actually. We know what happens if you pop open a warm beer. Whoosh!. So, being chilled would go the other direction.

I should add that after being out for a summer night down in the Ozarks, that half-can of flat beer would have also sport a floating crust of happily drowned bugs.
