Scotch was my go-to drink before I got into beer... True story: I thought I'd save money if I switched to beer... lol - y'all know how that turns out... Anyways, still dig Scotch... Big faves include Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Aberlour, Ardbeg, and - among others - this...
Talisker - 10 year old Scotch from the Isle of Skye... Orchard fruits like apple and orange and pear cut are with sharp pepper and peat smoke - the 10 year age statement and affordable price can be misleading as this is a top Scotch with a distinct character that puts it toe-to-toe with more mature whiskies...

What Scotch are you drinking now?

    Sláinte...

I don’t know if this is just a local phenomenon, but Talisker 10 recently dropped from around $50 to around $40. Grabbed a bottle, as I love this stuff and agree it’s a great value.

The other bottle I picked up recently is the Michel Couvreur. Haven’t gotten too far into it, but so far it’s interesting and hitting the spot for me. Drinks older and more expensive than the label and price tag.

Stepping out my comfort zone with this one. Guy threw it in as an extra when I was buying some beer earlier. We got to talking about scotch and 30 mins later, he said here this ones on me.

    Damn this one peaty/smokey S.O.B
Yet a sweet, full bodied, well rounded scotch lies beneath all that smoke.
    Good stuff.

I'm not much of a scotch person (that would be my brother). If he is pouring, I'll usually go for Glenlivet 12 or maybe Glenfarclas 10.

Haven't had a beer since last Thursday night. Stupid head cold has me on hiatus. But scotch and bourbon seem to clear my sinuses. First day where I can actually breath. Soo enjoying some of this stuff...

On the sweeter side (imo) with a nice spice and lingering smokey finish to keep me coming back.

One of the grocery stores here cleared out a bunch of their top-shelf stock a while back. They had this Oban 14 marked down to $50 (from ~$84) and put it where I'd be sure to see it. At that price, I couldn't pass it up. They also had The Glenlivet (12 year) marked down to $25. I dropped a lot of money in that store that day.

Wow... I remember when it was on sale for $55 at TW. Now, $60-70 seems to be the norm. $84 is excessive.

I’m a big fan of Aberlour. I was at the store earlier today and they had 18 for $160 a bottle. I’ve bought it before, and while it’s expensive, I definitely didn’t pay $160 for it. Probably $120-$130. Same store I was in today.

Price check anyone, or thoughts on the price increasing over the past couple years?

A peaty briney scotch for sure.
More smoke than any other scotch I've had so far. Glad I picked up a bottle. Definitely a winner in my book.

I can get Aberlour 16 for $97 and for what it's worth the Aberlour Casg Annamh for $63. Can't find any other prices in my photo library -- I need to get better at spray shooting the shelves at my bottle shops.

Just went by a Total Wine in Houston, and here's their Aberlour prices:

    12 year old = $44.99
    16 year old = $78.99
    18 year old = $114.99
    Casg Annamh = $64.99
    A'bunadh = $79.99

Houston prices are generally 5% to as much 20% cheaper than the prices I find in my hometown of Bryan-College Station FWIW. In fact, I'd swear the A'bunadh is $100+ here in B-CS, but I forget.

I plan on rummaging through that entire Aberlour lineup at some point. There's just too many whiskys to get to. What a problem! :stuck_out_tongue:

That seems much more in line with what I remember paying for the 18, probably a little less. I'll need to find out why the price has gone up so much here.

Not a bad lineup to run through!

Houston prices seem remarkably cheap to me. I don't know the Austin- or Dallas-area prices, and I'm very curious. These things are definitely regional.

    Confession time:
I wouldn't be drinking this Johnnie Black if I didn't get it for free. On top of that, it wasn't even my first choice. My office gives out various bottles during the holidays, and I always choose either a wine or vodka or something else. But this year there were extras available, so I said "what the hell, let's give it a shot". And give it a shot I did, and boy am I glad I did!

It's the perfect every-day sipper: rich and silky smooth, offering a little bit of everything, from that toffee-like touch of sweetness to the twinge of smoke, to a rich vanilla-laden woodiness. Wow! In a month and a half I'll be through with this one, and then what'll I do until next Christmastime?:grin:.

Way way back I got the wrong idea about blends, it seems. The ones I had seemed washed out and limp. But that's hardly the case here. Maybe I should have started nearer to the top :sunglasses:.

My grocery store has "shooters" (50 ml) of JW Blue Label for around $22. I've had this once, courtesy of a friend who received one of those Johnnie Walker sampler packs as a gift. Sooner or later, I'm going to bite the bullet on this. I just know it.

Glengoyne 10. A nice mellow dram. No peat, sherried. I picked this up because it was one of two distilleries I got to visit on a trip to Scotland a couple years ago. Quite nice, if a bit on the simple side.

Picked this up today. Recommended by the owner of a local liquor store. One of his barrel select program or something of the sorts. Gave me a sample a few weeks back and really liked it.

    Classic Selection.
Blended malt scotch whisky finished in Port casks. Out of Ballygrant, Islay

Taste is Peat, almonds, pears, & pepper.
Nose is definitely on the sweet side, port/wine. Been drinking alot of Laphroaig 10 lately. This one is a tad less smokier but still up there. Also it's a bit more sweeter due to the port cask, I'm guessing. Very well done for a blended scotch.
