I recently got my first Julio's Hold Card when I picked up my 6-pack of Westy 12 during The Festival. I have no idea what do use the Hold Card for. What do you guys think is something worth holding that I can expect Julio's to get at least once a year?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I'd gladly use it on a fresh parabola, but alas...

Maybe one of those Founder's in your avatar? I foolishly thought Frangelic mountain was going to be easier to get than KBS or CBS .. "hey it's not barrel aged so maybe it won't be bought out immediately!"

    Founder's Bolt Cutter?

If you're not looking for a one time release, then pick a Cantillon, they get it in fairly consistently it's just that the few bottles immediately sell out

Thanks for the advice. I would get the Founder's but i am looking for something new, I've only had the Cantillons at the Festival and at the Abbey following the Festival. you know which Cantillons they do get?

    Cheers

Here is the official description from Julio's and the Rules that go along with the card.

    "Hey Everyone!
Some of you may have seen/heard about our new Hold Card system here at Julio’s. We wanted to take a moment just to describe, in a little detail, what it entails and how you can receive a Hold Card.

So here are the answers to some frequently asked questions regarding the program:

When do you get a Hold Card?
The hold card is part of our Wild Six program, when you receive 18 punches on your wild six cards you will be rewarded with one Hold Card in addition to the other rewards associated with 18 punches.

What does a Hold Card do?
A Hold Card allows you to be placed in a lottery for the right to purchase a beer. The Hold Card has a location on the back of the card in order to write in your contact information as well as the name of a bottle you would like us to hold for you when it comes into the store. This can be a limited release bottle, a “one off” release, or any bottle you so wish to have us hold for you. When the bottle you requested comes into the store, before they are offered to the general public we will put the requested bottle aside for you and contact you to let you know it is in.

What are the rules of the Hold Card?
First a Hold Card does not guarantee you will receive the beer you requested, though it does greatly increase your chance of receiving that bottle. Basically if we receive more Hold Cards for a release than the amount of bottles received by Julio’s your Hold Card will place you into a lottery to have the bottle held for you. If you do not win the lottery you will be issued a new Hold Card that you can re-submit. You may submit multiple hold cards for the same release, though Julio’s does reserve the right to limit the quantities offered to individuals.

Hold cards are also non-transferable, once you submit the hold card for a certain release that is the bottle we will hold for you. You may not change your requested hold for another release.

Hold Cards also do not expire, though when the bottle you request arrives at the store we will only hold the bottle for a 2-week period. After that period the bottle will be offered to the general public.

We are excited to be able to offer this to our customers as, I’m sure some of you have noticed, limited release beers are starting to become increasingly popular. Hopefully this program will help allow our customers to end up with those tasty brews in their hands more frequently.

    -The Julio's Team"

Sweet mother of god - a store is doing it right. Great concept that I wish every store would adopt.

Yes and no. You can earn it through the purchase of simple cheap locals, and then cash it in for sweet whale blubber.

Thanks. Too bad I did not know about it or their Wild Six program when I was there recently to pick up my Westvleteren 12 gift box and at least 6 other mixed bottles. Customer Service FAIL.

It's not really a fail, they've been doing the wild six program for at least the 9 years I've been shopping there.

So, any idea how this would work for people out of state? I have a Wild Six card that almost has 18 punches. Do you physically have to drop off the hold card ahead of time, or just when you pick up the bottle. I don't travel through Mass as much anymore, but willing to make a trip to the area for a limited release

Kinda just talking out loud hear and planning on asking next time I'm there, but on the off chance someone has asked already, the info would be appreciated.

You drop it off ahead and they'll email or call you when the bottle is in. If you wanna mail it to me I'll drop it off for you.

Thanks for the info. I have 3 punches left, so may be a little while before I can take up on your offer, but it's greatly appreciated!

What if 2 or 3 people ask to hold a beer and they have a whole case? Do they take your card and put the rest on the shelf?

This is a great way to stop the psychos driving all the way across Massachusetts hitting stores they never go to for shelf whales.

I can't beleive beer has gotten to the point where you need complicated schemes and lotteries just to buy a beer. No wonder I ignore all high priced rare beer. Just seems so douchy to me and not want I expect from beer.

I would assume that to be the case, yes. In that particular situation maybe they would hook you up with 2 bottles though - seems like a decent thing to do. This is all game theory - you don't want to waste your card on something that is obtainable on shelves, but at the same time if you want a beer badly enough, you want to make sure you get it. You know everybody and their mother is going to be using their cards for the next CBS or comparable, and these hold cards aren't exactly easy to get (108 singles). Thus I tend to think it will be easy to get most anything.

Here's my question... literally all they do is put a standard hole punch into the card. Did they improve the system or are we going to see people start punching their own cards? Previously it wasn't worth it for the free swag, but now that whales are at stake, who knows what people will stoop to. I'd imagine if you abuse it greatly they'll call you out on it, but they'd never know if people are punching a few holes here and there.
