What Whiskey Are You Drinking Now?

Since the "Other Beverages" area has been re-opened, I thought it would be nice to start a new thread that is inclusive of all types of whiskey. I mean, we don't have a "What Stout are you Drinking Now?" thread. I go back and forth b/w rye, scotch, and bourbon all the time, so this would be a bit easier. I am trying this one for the first time. I believe the newer bottles have gone away with the "Darkest" label. The glassware is inappropriate, but I'm traveling and didn't bring my scotch glass! Lots of smoke on the nose. The sherry cask mingles nicely.

I've burned through a Glenmorangie 4 x 100 mL sampler, a fifth of Chivas Regal 12yr and a couple odds and ends in the two months while other beverages was offline. The Monkey Shoulder was my latest purchase for $25 at Sam's. I'm having a really hard time paying $50 plus for 3 year old rye when 10-12 year old single malts are the same price. I'm trying to keep to small purchases on Scotch until I figure out what I really like. Cheers all!

Knob Creek 9-Year Single Barrel, at the Whiskey Road Tavern, Cedar Falls, IA. WR boasts an extensive whisk(e)y menu, excellent food, great wine and tap lists, and classic cocktails with a signature twist. This Knob Creek (120 proof) was sublime with a splash of water added.

This is their Signature Old Fashioned, made with Basil Hayden's, bitters, and a spritz of house-made orange essence. I forgot to photograph it until it was half gone, that's how good it was. Cheers!

I've been sipping Four Roses Single Barrel, Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and finishing off some Elmer T. Lee over the last few days... no photos unfortunately but I've had some pretty bad hangovers if that's proof enough

Still in Germany, so I'm stuck with the small bottles for now. Really happy to see the Glendronach 18 (for 10 dollars). This is my first time with this one. Really amazing - tons of sherry and chocolate-covered orange.

And now The Glenallachie 15, matured in a combination of Pedro Ximenez and oloroso sherry casks. Lots of red grapes on the nose.

I'm currently out of single malt and this was $25 at Sam's. Not bad, but a bit bitey for drinking straight. I think I prefer Chivas Regal 12 year for a few bucks more. Cheers!

I purchased this 375 yesterday. The biggest reason was to top off a bottle of Monkey Shoulder. I'm not in love with the "freshness" of that bottle for drinking straight.
This is nice in its own right. I'm probably going to buy every available brand in a 375 at Meijer. 18-22 bucks apiece to move through some brands and see what I like. Cheers!

Not a huge Maker's guy but I'm always up for trying special releases. RC6 is pretty enjoyable. Would definitely appeal to Highland or maybe even Canadian blended drinkers. Not exactly sure how limited this is, but it's definitely worth grabbing if you're a wheater/maker's fan. Caveat is that it's likely about the same price as the cask strength which I think is probably a better product. I'm told the unique Wood Finishing Series releases are to become a more regular thing for MM.

High West Double Rye. I like this one quite a bit. Cannot figure out why the prices varies so much tho - $29.99 in one store and $19.99 n another for the same 750 ML Btl.

Yep, that makes sense. It's not like I'm some grizzled cowhand been drinking whiskey since I could walk, but I've enjoyed several drams of Glenfarclas 105 (60% ABV) and a few other whiskeys that are 55% or stronger.

But Elijah Craig Barrel Proof ... stuff seriously choked me up that first sip. It took just a wee bit of water to calm it down, but damn!
