I’ll admit that my remark was flippant; however, it was not my intention to imply that 10%+ DIPAs and barrel-aged imperial stouts were the only beers that matter.

I also enjoy SNPA very much. I like other mass produced craft beers very much too (SA Boston Lager, for example). The difference between those beers and Fat Tire is that I’d rate SNPA pretty close to the top for its style and alcohol content. I’d say the same is true for SA Boston Lager.

I can quickly rattle off a handful of beers (same style and relatively close in abv ) that are far better in flavor when compared to Fat Tire.

Does the fact that I enjoy and appreciate Fat Tire give me more credence when I say that I think Sam Adams makes completely mediocre beer?

It's a great gateway beer and for an amber a great example of the style.... lots of people obviously drink Fat Tire or it would not still be selling so much volume. It might not be a craft beer geek beer but it is still a craft beer enthusiast beer for sure.

Get asked all the time about it NJ.

It's a step or two above Blue Moon or SNPA. Not an uncommonly asked about product. Once NC is up and running I assume they'll be nation wide.

Marketing and great distribution. Seems like every tavern or bar in Oregon has a cool Fat Tire neon beer sign that you can see while driving by. I do like most of their other standard lineup but I never cared much that particular beer. I get people giving me the remnants of their 6 or 12 packs all the time because they know I enjoy craft beer. Sigh.

I venture way past the gate often and enjoy the brews there. Still 75% of the beer I drink is basic craft, Lagers, Pale Ales, IPA Stouts ect.

People want what they can't have...Yuengling at least from the circle I come from was a huge niche-trip to PA to load up- can't get here in Ohio-deal until distribution came to the state. Now all I hear is how it tastes different since coming to Ohio. I personally buy their Summer Wheat, Porter, Lord Chesterfield & Oktoberfest over their Lager, but don't think the taste has changed. People want what they can't have...

It's been here forever, but I'd assume Yuengling probably outsells it, it is truly everywhere on tap where you have to hit craft bars to see Fat Tire. Yuengling hit a hr in this market its pushed Red Oak out in a few places as well.

Not terrible, per se, just mediocre and underwhelming. NB has a lot of good gateway beers, and I think that's their niche market, the casual craft drinkers and folks branching out from BMC.

^^^^^ agree, terrible is shit like Steel Reserve. NB makes average kinds brews, but their Lips Of Faith with Alpine was great, tasted more like an Alpine IPA than anything I've ever had from NB.

Had my first fat tire last Sunday at the Denver zoo . I enjoyed it and the tap tender was nice enough to offer a free refill so I did take him up on his offer . Would I go on a mad hunt for it ? No. would I drink it again if easily available ? Yes.

Black Mesa and the Marshall special releases should be solid traders, but they're so localized nobody knows about them. I'm not into trading (yet), but I've had plenty requests from BAs that want to try Coop F5 as well.

Looks like that brewery in Asheville will provide a Fat Tire fix for our friends in New England, and others.

Yea I don't think i have ever seen any Black Mesa in bottles. Ive only had it on tap definitely a solid brewery. Marshall, Im not so crazy about. And the only problem I have is Coop not dating their cans. Makes it really hard to know if you are getting some fresh beer.
