I am going to be meeting some friends next month who are coming up from Indianapolis. They have offered to bring some beer that I can't find up here in Wisconsin. Last time they brought me a couple four packs of Sun King, which was decent, but for the price wasn't worth it IMO. I'd like to have something local, but am open to trying other beers not available in my area. What are my options?

Another brewery will start selling their bottles next week called Flat 12. I'm not sure what will be available, but their porter is very good and their IPA is alright if you like pine-centric IPAs. Another brewery doing cans is a brewery called Great Crescent. Their coconut porter is pretty good. New Albanian makes some great beer, but some bottles are lights out fantastic and others are wet cardboard. I hope they get a handle on that because when their beer is on it is on point.

If you can talk them into it I would try and get them to bring you some growlers from Bier Brewery. I think they are making some of the better beer here in Indy.

I'm not sure what out of state breweries we get that you do not. I enjoy Sixpoint beers for the price point. Hope that helps.

I picked up a 4 pack of Great Cresent Bourbon Barrel Aged stout 2 weeks ago at Kahns. As long as you don't try to compare to the big dogs and drink as a stand alone, I thought they were great...especially coming in cans! I also enjoyed Uplands beers a lot as well. Sun King... Not so much.

Nah, I'll just hope the maintainer stumbles across this thread.

Make them pick up some Boulevard, particularly Saison Brett and Love Child #2. They're pretty expensive bottles but worth it. Have them check the local Kahns and Crown Liquors.

Thanks for the replies, I'm going to check some of these out. How accurate is that seekabrew website? They show Hair of the Dog being distributed in Indiana, but their website doesn't mention it. Can anyone confirm? What if I were to be looking for certain styles in an Indy liquor store. Say a berliner weiss, old ale, a wild ale, or a lambic. Any good recommendations for those styles?

You'll only find HOTD Fred, Adam & Ruth...& that's only if you know where to look...Nowhere in Indy has received a shipment in a very long time...

The Crown downtown just got in some Girardin 1882 Black Label...I'd highly suggest the Payless on 96th & I-69 for their selection...they had Rivertown Lambic (not Pestilence) last time I checked...

There are still Upland Raspberry & Dantalion on some shelves...

Triton is also a local brewery that recently started bottling. Their ipa, amber, and brown are pretty available

Considering that I have been living in Wisconsin for 2 years now and am from Indy, and go back quite often, I figured I should throw my 2 cents in. I'd recommend HotD. Didn't see Adam the last time I was down but Fred and Ruth are pretty prevalent. Boulevard is great, especially their smokestack series. Brooklyn is worth picking up too. I'm a huge fan their Chocolate stout and Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse. As for local brews, Sun King's and Upland's normal lines are not very good to put it nicely. Although Sun King does $5 growler fills on Fridays. Osiris and Wee Mac are probably worth $5 for 64oz. I went to Flat 12 for the first time about 3 months ago and was overall impressed. Maybe they can pick you up a growler.

What's the price range on those 750ml bottles from Boulevard and Brooklyn? Some of those look pretty appealing. If I could get some more Fred or Adam from HotD that would be great too. Unfortunately, the Hopfen-Weisse is no longer available, as that one looked good too.

Whaaaaaaaat? Why? When did this happen? This is very upsetting. I guess I haven't bought it in a while.

I think I bought my Boulevard Rye-on-Rye for $13. Don't remember how much the Brooklyn bottles are.

ive picked up cantillon and 3F in town for very reasonable prices. so if youre in to either of those they are options...although again, they can move quickly if spotted.

I'd grab some Triton Railsplitter. I think that is a great local IPA and one that you can get fresh all the time. Their other offerings are alright but they have a great IPA. If your friend can get some growlers from Bier Brewery or flat 12 I'd recommend those too. Sun King is skippable at this point.

hehe, 2 bottles of rose de gambrinus a few months back. plus you can ask the owners to order stuff and theyll try....note theyll try because as you mentioned its hard stuff to find. oh and its stoneys, they pick up stuff like that fairly frequently, or at least more so than most other locations.
