What's good / available in the DSM area right now?

    My girlfriend will be in the Des Moines area for Christmas (Ankeny specifically) and I'm going to have her bring me back some beers if possible. I don't want to have her driving all over the place to track down beers so I'm just trying to get an idea of what's good and should be readily available.

    I've taken a look at the brewery list for Iowa, but not sure what actually gets to Des Moines area and in bottles/cans.

    I want to try Peace Tree Templeton Red and it looks like it was just released... any word on how easy it is to find?

    I'd love to try Toppling Goliath but it looks like it only hits a few places in Ames / DSM and then it sounds like it sells out pretty quick.

    Prairie Trail Hy Vee in Ankeny gets all the best releases in the area. Blake, the manager, is a great guy.

    Yep...have her see Blake at the Prairie Trail HyVee in Ankeny.

    As for Templeton Red...it may be tough to find a bottle, as it has sold out at most places I think? Same with TG bottled stuff. If you have any specific wants other than those, post some and I can let you know if they are available and where to find them.

    Is there anywhere in DM that I can find bottles from Toppling Goliath? Am in town for the week close the the 42nd st. Hy Vee.

    Not in your distro, I would suggest:

    Tallgrass Ethos IPA
    Deschutes Obsidian
    Deshutes Hop Henge
    Deshutes Abyss (probably sold out, but it wouldn't hurt to ask)

    Usually there is at least two taps of TG at the Library Cafe located on South West corner of 35th and University Ave. Oh and the do sell Growlers and Mondays they have specials on Iowa breweries.

    Saw Madhouse barleywine and Peacetree imperial stout at Ankeny Prairie Trail tonight. Picked up Founders Breakfast Stout, Deschutes Red Chair NWPA, and Sierra Nevada Torpedo. CHEERS!

    I was in DSM earlier this week, and the Hyvee just off of I-35 in W DSM had a ton of the Peace Tree Templeton Red, with no limit. They also had a few Juliets and Gillians on the shelf(!), which was remarkable given that those sell out in St. Louis very quickly.

    I opened one Templeton Red on Christmas night and was very disappointed. Thought it was a waste of Templeton barrels. There was no discernible rye whiskey taste for me. I bought a few extra to bring back home and probably will let a couple cellar for a while or will trade them.
