God that Maharaja was undrinkable ( sorry if that is beer snobbish). I tried it once and couldn't get past two drinks. I wound up giving it back to the waitress and getting something else ( drain pour). I'll take a gubna over pallet wrecker every time. This is all beer snob talk at this point you understand, I'll still drink a pallet wrecker, its just very sticky. The RESIN is one I really like though, and it's sticky, but not sweet sticky...it's resin sticky.

Weird, because I like Mahraja and I think Resin is one of the most underwhelming DIPAS I've tried. Two poles of a magnet, you and I.

I just like it more cut and dry. The maharaja tried too hard and it was too sweet for me. I like it dry and strait. Like whiskey I guess. I like the hop. That's what tastes good to me.

I agree Maharaja is a tad sweet, not my favorite DIPA by any means, but solid nonetheless. I'll give Resin another swing, only had it once and it's highly possible the shop I got it from didn't treat it well.

Green flash is usually a little malt forward for me, but I do drink it. I don't think i've ever tried the imperial though ( one to look for?). I did just have my first double ipa from Jackie O's tonight. That mess will put hair on your chest and you won't be able to taste anything else but liquor after it. STRONG. You can taste the alcohol very prominently. I don't know the percentage but had to be over 10. I can tell you that I've been drinking the Jackie O's mystic momma all week and that stuff is YUMMY. It gets sweeter as it gets warmer, but in a very good way. Just don't drink it after that imperial version because it tastes like water!

I don't mind the boozyness of liquor but don't like it in my beer too much. I do if it's good and Oak'y though.

Yeah man, I drink strong and pallet wrecking beers and this one was on the verge of too much for me. It was more like a wiskey and I don't know how many people will be willing to drink it. It was good for a one off, or getting plastered before a one night stand or something. Stick to the mystic momma...YUMM.

What if I'm looking for that late-addition, aromatic, tropical, citrusy hop flavor? I'm from MA and some locals which might fit this description are the hoppy offerings from Jack's Abby, or Pretty Things Meadowlark IPA. What are some other good ones in this category?

White rajah, head hunter, jai Alai. I like good people a lot. Very aromatic as you say, but not tropical, it's simcoe. Smell is such an unrated part of beer (probably because hops are so expensive now). we are thread high jacking at this point though.

Good question. It was really good when it came in, but I haven't had one in about three weeks and they could have changed in that time. I'll have to check in on them again next week. Back in August I liked it better than RuinTen, though.

Narragansett did a one time release of a DIPA in bombers. It was the most bitter beer I have ever tasted. Also it sucked, bad.

Palate wrecker or Avery Daguna fresh on draft. The hoppiest beer I've ever had was made by a friend of mine and dry hopped. It was a single ipa and it was like having your tongue conditioned with a rake. The hoppiest experience ofmy life was eating a few fresh whole cones from, "hoppy," my 3 year old cascade vine. It was less than pleasant.

In all my years of drinking craft, Hopsickle was the only beer that was so bitter that it literally and completely wrecked my palate for the night. That said, this was about 6 years ago now and I haven't had it since. Wonder what my tongue would say about it now.

Tall Grass Ethos is 110 IBUs.

I course Surly Abrasive has to be mentioned.

Palate Wrecker was very intense in flavor/bitterness, Devil Dancer was a little rough and Ruinten was among the best Stone beers I've had. The most hoppy or bitter beer is hard for me to discern because I don't focus too much on it that specifically, I focus more on whether I like a beer as a whole.

Point has been made several times that there's a chasm between hoppy and bitter. IBU refers to bittering units and there's a physical maximum of around 100 regardless of what the brewer does.I've had beers of relatively modest IBU which were intensely bitter , (low gravity beers with little residual sweetness) , and others where the brewer used "an insane quantity of hops" yet which weren't particularly bitter at all.
