Second that. And while it might sound counterintuitive, I've found myslef gravitating towards the really well done 5ish% APAs by the end of a US trip.

Don't know if Beachwood BBQ makes it to SF, but I loved their fruity, low-bitterness Pale Ales when I was in LA at the end of my last visit.

Moondog Mr Mistoffelees. Been digging this beer so much I bought Joel out of his remaining stock at Cellarbrations. When you're jaded with hops, a lively, fruity, lightly tart and oaked wild ale is a fine substitute.

Other highlights over the past month include Stillwater Table Beer, Lost Abbey Framboise de Amorosa and Mikkeller Wheat is the new Hops.

Looking at that list, there's a bit of a theme emerging methinks.

Thororgoods Apple Beer, This must be a new brew. Slightly sweeter than the Billy B's Golden but very enjoyable. Has the Oak aged flavours and tartness we have come to expect. The appearance is a healthy Saison like, The nose is fantastic, the balance is about right. Great Brew !

Yeah I had some Hefe on the same deal last weekend. I agree very refreshing, especially after standing out in the sun for 7 hours!

Local had no German pils so ended up with LC Pils. Not really a fan. Will load up on Radeberger or Bitburger tomorrow.

Had a Vitus last night, just as good as Weihenstephaner's hefe, maybe even better. While the hefe is unbelievably good when it's nice and cold, the body leaves.a bit to be desired when it warms up. The extra body Vitus has makes it just as enjoyable when it has heated up a bit and the ever so slight warmth from the higher abv compliments the style for me.

Thornbridge Imperial Oatmeal Stout. What a brew. This is a must try

Indeed it is. Very under-rated. It's a shame the beer never reached the heights that I thought it would achieve.

There is only so much sweet oxidized pilsner I can enjoy.

    That being none.

Man, how good is it? Busted some out for my craft-dabbling brothers at dinner a week or so ago and they were blown away. Me too. Been in Mexico a few days and palate is proper reset what with all the lager. I did just drink a Negra Leon from a plastic cup while marching in a parade down Ave. Hidalgo in Oaxaca on a warm day. Decent.

Do you work there? When I buy Radeberger from there (or Bitburger from Woolies) I don't check the best by date due to my understanding the stock moves. I bought a sixer of Radeberger last night and checked the date when I got home - Feb 2012!

Liquorland used to get fresh konig - is a solid pils without being outstanding. Maybe just below bitburger. I had Konig on tap near the brewery in Germany and it was fricken outstanding though.

    Haha :D

Yeah I wouldn't shop there anymore - the staff seem to be very lazy in not checking the best before on their beers.

The Konig is obviously fresh though, bottled in June.

Right off the cargo ship. It's the best time to buy it. However, you should take note that the Konig you drink in Jan-Feb next year will probably be the same Konig you are drinking now ;)

Aktien Zwick'l Kellerbier whilst listening to music and watching the college football. Shame Sunday only comes once a week.

Shame eh? I had some pretty fresh tasting Paulaner pils on tap two weeks back, was sensational.

It's because you drank it fresh. Their beers are meant to be aged.

It had a best before of 12/12/13. That's aged, isn't it?

Had two bottles of Amager No Rice & Curry over the last few weeks. Delicious beer. Great hoppy lager with excellent ABV and drinkability.

Tonight Wheat is the new hops, Bruery Mischief and 2010 Moo Brew BA Stout.

None fixed my broken collarbone, but they sure all tasted good.

Sunday I visited the Old Swan Brewery. Beers used to be infected, but that was years ago. I finally returned.... Had two beers, Angus Pale Ale = solid american style pale, Riverside Lager = solid german hell (slightly overcarbed but no biggy because it was pretty bloody authentic and I am a real German beer snob). The brewer seems to know his stuff there.

I'm heading back tonight to try another couple. Very promising indeed, and good news for coming summer given the location is beautiful. Got motivated for a return visit after the "Brew TV" doco on Channel 44 I think it is.

    Weihenstephaner Festbier

Skunky and waxy. Interesting change-up but closest beer I've had to a macro in a while.

    Now Little Creatures IPA

Pretty decent...about what I'd expect from an IPA from them really...and can't complain considering it will no doubt get better distribution than beers like Hop Hog

    Seems fairly sessionable too

tbh now I think about it I'm not sure if I ever thought this beer was all that great

Hacker Pschorr is basically the only Oktoberfest I can remember actually enjoying

Now BORIS for my first time out of the bottle

Not sure what to make of this really...hints at fruit then finishes like tar. Feels dry as tar but there's definite residual sweetness

Wish the malts had a bit more character or spice really

Not a bad beer, might age well

I really need to go, but the pricing for food has always kept me a bit away (not because I don't mind paying good money for good food, but because it's a bit out of the budget for the rest of the family).
