This is the first time I have taken one sip of a beer and turfed it instantly. Ghastly stuff.

Pirate Life/Ballast Point pale ale - sensationally bitter. Lovely hop aromas and flavours supported by aggressive bitterness. Delicious

Whaaaat?!? Did you have it on tap? Are you a stout lover? Bad bottle, maybe? I thought it was amazing.

@smithflipper, tried it last night. Agree with your notes. Huge body. Well balanced taste of oyster, malt, with tangy lime and liquorice notes emerging as it warms. Top beer.
Also recommend Temple Brewing (Brunswick, Vic) New World Order American Stout. Dry-hopped stout in the Rogue Shakespeare tradition. But slightly more malt forward. A big, full-bodied beer with medium ABV (6.5%).

I think I found my sub-8% RIS substitute:

Exit Double Milk Stout (7.7%; 500ml bottle). Intense aroma: milk, honey, banana. Thick, sustaining, tan head. Black and lightly carbonated. Rounded, creamy mouthfeel. Sweet malts with a touch of blue cheese get a huge lift from the alcohol warmth. Pleasant hop bitterness with berry notes in the aftertaste.

It's got more heft than some barrel-aged imperial stouts I've tried. Limited run so I'm going to get me another couple before they're sold out. Kudos Exit!

Whered you pick that up? I was lucky enough to try pliny the younger on tap at a bar a couple of years ago in San Francisco. Was amazing.

Id head down to the bitter phew in Darlinghurst. Best craft beer pub in Sydney in my opinion.

Cracked open a few vintage ales recently
1977 "Coronation Ale" pretty darned stale tasting , ( basically hardy's ale)
and very heat affected kind of cooked flavours, not great
1977/78 Sherbourne Abbey Ale ( I assume hardy's ale again)
similar to above ,but slightly more enjoyable
    1991 Traquair house ale
so deep was the stale flavours had to dump this on the veggie patch,
    awful

Wildflower's puncheon fermented Czech Pils. Number 1 beer of 2017 for me. There is no dicking around with this beer. Classic Czech pils all the way, barrel is in the background and compliments that great relationship between Saaz, pils malt and a clean lager ferment. Proud that an Aussie producer has put something of this quality out.

EDIT: Topher and crew are some amazing things with the wild cultured beers. However, i hope the team continue to produce this beer.

just a heads up that there is quite a bit of yeast in the bottle. I found that it settled to the bottom pretty quickly when the bottle was vertical and chilled. The beer poured bright when the yeast settled.

had to open old money to be extra decadent after a day of pure de-cadence.

just ridiculous. don't know what they did but that brew and the barrels they used were pure gold.

this if anything was an aussie whale and i was lucky to even get a bottle, let alone 3. reminded me of an aussie premium muscat but did not have the sweetness and was way more drinkable. that stuff was truly world class and i've no doubt that my expected bottle of bcbs will not compare in the slightest.

if anyone still has bottles of old money (there's probably some cuck with a case) that beer is truly world class and I would not let it go lightly.

VIC was hit by a shipment about a month or 2 ago that included backward bastard, doom and a few other things. Still plenty of KNS lying on the shelf around here.

Just me who makes rash/unsubstantiated claims or does this batch look rushed? 1/4 time aged & ready for a Christmas launch. Plus the bottles look like Wild Turkey Rare premix cans

thanks for pointing that out about the ageing and I agree on the bottles, they and the marketing do look kinda tacky. I probably won't bother with this one.

What the fuck is Old Money? I give so few shits about everything coming out now, am I really that jaded? Fuck...

In other news...has anyone who lives anywhere but Canberra seen any bottles of Wig & Pen's RIS Limited Release? Grabbed two even though Richard ain't even there anymore, no farkn clue how big the run is (and there's no way it'll live up to the Wig & Pen RIS on tap from yonks ago).

EDIT: Looks like the first run is 540 bottles.

yer I just worshipped the 2016 vintage on uncuck'd and likened it to ridiculous sauternes. I'm more concerned about this current batch.I may buy one and do a side by side with the bottle of 2017 KBS I've got coming for most once-great-but-now-bad beer of all time.
