I have been using this site for a while but have just recently started rating and reviewing beers. When I looked at my list of beers I was surprised to see that my first 16 were all different styles. I was curious about some folks with many more reviews. What style have you rated/reviewed the most and which style do you rate the highest?

My reviews are not style driven, rather they reflect what's available within my shopping range. Probably more IPAs simply because that's what is most popular, at least in the craft beer sense.

Below is my top ten after nearly a decade of reviewing. Frankly, some of these are surprises to me, some are no surprise at all.

(The first # is the number of each style rated, I think that the second # is that style as a percentage of my total ratings. I think that the third # is the average score for each style)

    IPA - American | 270 | 12.28% | 3.86
    IPA - Imperial | 225 | 10.23% | 3.97
    Stout - American Imperial | 150 | 6.82% | 4.07
    Pale Ale - American | 108 | 4.91% | 3.78
    Pumpkin Beer | 78 | 3.55% | 3.74
    IPA - New England | 78 | 3.55% | 4.05
    Stout - Sweet / Milk | 56 | 2.55% | 3.9
    Brown Ale - American | 53 | 2.41% | 3.89
    Stout - Russian Imperial | 51 | 2.32% | 4.06
    Lager - Märzen / Oktoberfest | 48 | 2.18% | 3.77

Like many have/will respond - The Usual Suspects IPAs & Stouts....I need to expand my horizons! Although I've been guilty over the past few years of enjoying many many beers w/o logging in to rate them. While the list would most likely shake out the same, the numbers would be much higher.

Oktoberfest Märzens. It's still my favorite style so I'm biased but the whale NE IPAs have my highest averages.

Thanks for making me look at my stats! I am surprised that I have rated/reviewed 86 styles. Would have never guessed that high.
However, way out front is American, Imperial and New England IPAs adding up to just shy of 40%.
Of course I guess that I only rate/review less than 40% of the beers I drink. This is mostly because I'm usually in the moment with friends and/or family and just don't want to be that guy on his phone/notebook/computer.

    As for me...

    IPA - American | 96 | 6.28% | 3.74
    Stout - American Imperial | 91 | 5.96% | 4.11
    Farmhouse Ale - Saison | 71 | 4.65% | 3.94
    Wild Ale | 66 | 4.32% | 4.06
    IPA - Imperial | 58 | 3.8% | 3.93
    Strong Ale - Belgian Dark | 47 | 3.08% | 4
    Porter - American | 46 | 3.01% | 3.77
    Stout - Russian Imperial | 41 | 2.68% | 4.08
    Barleywine - American | 36 | 2.36% | 3.82
    Stout - American | 32 | 2.09% | 3.83

    The two year shift is...

    IPA - American ................................. 96 2019 and 96 2021
    Stout - American Imperial
    ............... 66 2019 and 91 2021
    Farmhouse Ale - Saison
    .... not top ten 2019 and 71 2021
    Wild Ale
    ............................... not top ten 2019 and 66 2021
    IPA - Imperial
    .................................... 47 2019 and 58 2021
    Strong Ale - Belgian Dark
    ............... 47 2019 and 47 2021
    Porter - American
    ............................ 38 2019 and 46 2021
    Stout - Russian Imperial
    ................. 36 2019 and 41 2021
    Barleywine - American .................... 31 2019 and 36 2021
    Stout - American
    ................. not top ten 2019 and 32 2021

The surge of saison and Wild Ale is due to greater access. They have long been styles I love. The stagnation in American IPA is likely due to better access to other styles.

This is interesting, as the numbers seem to anecdotally support my impression that brewers are producing a wider range, though not necessarily in large volumes. Not that this tiny sample is statistically stable. Still a fun exorcise.

A lot more work would be a break-down by style family. That would be interesting, and might help spotlight trends, especially for Lagers, which finally seem to be getting long championed appreciation.

Maybe @Todd can weigh in on if this metric can be added to our personal beer stats.

Oops. A typo and a few flat-out errors...

    - The A-IPA. 2019 was 73. I have had a few in the past two years.
    - Belgian Saison style name changed to Farmhouse Ale - Saison, in 2019 I had 56.
    - Wild Ale used to be called American Wild Ale, 2019 I had 48.

Not really surprised that the IPAs overwhelm the top of the list, as those are the brews that are most-available from the widest range of brewers. Still, even with all of those, that is only 30% of the brews rated.
