Howdy all folks. As you may know, or not... @mattcrill has decided he can no longer host the weekly thread called new beer Sunday. This is a thread that starts once a week where posters talk about the new beer, any new beer, that they are having that Sunday. AS long as it's new to you, you talk about it and let us know your thoughts.

I have spoke in conversation with several other participants who have expressed interest in wanting New Beer Sunday to continue. So after the campaigning we have come up with a list so far. Feel free to let people know who you think you should host. If you don't care about NBS then why are you even reading this ?

Candidates :grinning: (snicker) are also welcome to post in this thread their own (ahem..) platform, of why they think the are up for the job.

I'll mention for myself I am usually reviewing new beers on a regular basis and really enjoy it, and have been doing that actively on this site for uh??? a few years. Luckily BeerAdvocate provides a good tool for me to make that happen.

(that's my campaign speech) the end...

On a side note I am not sure I am the best candidate since there are weekends I may be out of town, or away travelling. You know... hiking the Appalachian trail... (no not really) Maybe we could have backups?!?

I have requested to volunteer although I am aware other candidates may be more popular.

You are welcome to also vote for yourself.

Answer the poll, and let the campaigning begin.

There will be no losers in this, only tasty beer to enjoy and look forward to.

If you have any other comments feel free to mention, but keep it clean gang!, however I am not sure I can add new people to vote for on the list once I have created this message. This list was created in private conversation amongst participants who expressed interest in the original NBS forum.

Good luck and more beer. I'll close the poll once I think interest has died down, and of course I am sure the Bros will have something to say about a final decision also. It is their site after all.

    Cheers

Now excuse me I think my BBQ grill is burning... :grimacing:

I should also point out that as many participants have already discussed there are no egos here, and that there is a good chance for coverage for when someone can't make it, another person will start a thread during a given week.

Have fun.. (I still haven't voted yet...)

    Yes!
Let's start listing what we expect from whomsoever gets the thread
(seems like we're starting to look at you, @smakawhat - be ready, homie )

    1. Opening post featuring alliteration or assonance :grimacing::grimacing::grimacing: (hey, Matt always did it - lol)
    2. Video review

How about free samples of the reviewed beer sent to all thread-participating BAs? :stuck_out_tongue:

I was gonna say if I get this job somebody has to give me beer... (I haven't seen the results I don't think I can see them unless I preview, but that may toss away my chance to vote. :stuck_out_tongue:

At least I made the ballot!

A total dark horse candidate, got to make my grass roots campaign. Can't wait for the Iowa caucuses!

I'll pledge my support to smakawhat in hopes that I can get a nice cushy cabinet job and pinch hit when needed!

I hate to rain on everyone's parade but I wasn't really putting it out there for a vote.

I had talked to @cavedave and @utopiajane and left it at that.

I guess if that's what they want to do, it's their prerogative but wasn't the way I inherited it and it wouldn't be my choice now.

Regardless, I trust the spirit and guiding principles that kept it going for 480 weeks will continue.

    Cheers friends.

Agreed. I have seen this thread work for over 8 years, and it does best when multiple hosts share the kick-off duty.

So I will let you easterners figure this out. I'll expect to see NBS as usual every Sunday morning, I usually see the thread around noon eastern. And I'll continue to post between 6 and 8 PM eastern.

    Happy Trails!

NBS is, by far, my favorite thread on BA. A BA named malty started NBS, and imbued it with a certain attitude, and certain expectations. Mattcrill carried forth wonderfully, and NBS grew. I think NBS needs to keep the things that differentiate it from so many other threads. My vote is whatever Matt votes. Although I did click Utopiajane in the poll, Cavedave would do great, but he often works Sunday mornings. Bitterbill, while geographically challenged, seems to be an early riser and could get things rolling by the 9-10am Eastern time frame that we're used to.

    And let's not forget...

Remember the first rule of politics. The ballots don't make the results, the counters make the results. The counters. Keep counting!

Sleeping on this till tomorrow, hope everyone had a good weekend. Cheers!

I am able to kick off NBS by 12:20 every Sunday I work, but I should mention I am retiring in June so this work thing won't be a problem anyway, though occasional travel will.

Not trying to campaign, actually trying to stay out of the politics of this. Do want to say I will be happy to have whatever role is decided for me, if any, and I am honored that Matt thought of me as a choice, it really does mean a lot.

I cherish this thread for a lot of reasons, but the biggest one is it has remained the same, a Sunday welcome to folks to try and share new beers with other BA's, and to not just enjoy, but to to really think about what it is in each beer brings the greatest enjoyment, or lack of it, It is a link to a simpler time on BA when there were far fewer members and far fewer Great American Beers to enjoy, as well as a far less user friendly site, when the only font changes that could be made were to C&P the titles of threads to obtain bold lettering in a post, which we did every Sunday for many years in NBS.

Let's all welcome whoever ends up as main host, and if that person can channel malty as well as Matt does, or even close to it, all will be well. Cheers!
