    Why not call them "breaker"? - because that's the size bottle you want to break on the edge of the bar right before a melee.

    maybe because it seems like the perfect bottle for a moltov cocktail?

    that is actually an honest guess.

    They're called bombers because they all blow a hole through your wallet.

    You ever see someone try to break a bomber over someones head during one of those melees? Trust me, you would not call them breakers...

    I would not use a bottle in a bar fight.

    In WWII, the pilots who flew the B-52's would drink a bottle, about this size, as part of their rations to get up the nerve to complete their bombing missions.

    "The origins of the "bomber" term is in dispute and I've read all sorts of outlandish "explanations" (many involve a non-existent "B-22" bomber airplane or German style hand grenades). I tend to believe it came from the "alternate" community, where a "bomber" was a large joint, and then anything larger than normal."

    If you're the instigator of said fight it could come in handy.

    22 oz of beer is certainly the bomb. Why get bombers? Because I can't afford any of the 750 mL bottles!

    In all seriousness...I was just about to paste the above as well. A quick google search reveals this "elsewhere".

    40s = 40 ounces.

    i.e. I was recently slamming 40's with my boy John St. Charles and we had to kill 'em before we met up with some fly ass hoes at the bar.
