Will you return to taprooms, bars, restaurants, and beer gardens or wait?

Not that I’m cautious, I just don’t really go out to drink anywhere.

 

The current restrictions are so onerous I’m not even going to the beer store for the time being.

 

I recall reading where they specifically recommended against and at least one of the reasons is that it would promote frequent face touching to adjust the mask, which was a greater risk that what the mask could stop. So, yes, they did change at least the public rationale (who knows if that was real or salesmanship, though.)

 

I represent ~2600 employees, some of whom are front-line caregivers at University Hospital in Newark at Rutgers University. I will be at a bar as soon as it's actually safe. This can spread through the air, and we still don't know who has it, or any real numbers about who it's killing or who has had it and recovered. I don't need to be at a bar badly enough to get someone killed over it, and I'm disappointed in some people in this and other craft beer communities who seem completely unable to find perspective on this.

 

Curious to know how that works.

 

Can you please link the exact article from the CDC that says this? Recalling something and proving evidence to your claims are entirely different things.

 

I think everyone is in a hurry to get back to the bar and get back to having those good times that they love. Reality check: Everyone at your table has to be from the same household. No more than 6 per table. Tables at least 6 feet apart. No sports on TV 'cause there's no sports happening. At least two people touching your drink (hope they aren't infected...). It's going to be a few years before it's as fun as you remember it...

 

Yep, I would absolutely love to get back to some of favorite local spots just as much as anyone here, but I’m not going to risk my health, my families health, and other people’s health so I can drink beer I can now get directly shipped to me.

 

I will wait and watch the numbers to see if they continue to decline or increase and how well people are respecting the social distancing guidelines. I'm not quite sure what our new normal will be only time will tell

 

I’m looking forward to returning, but I live in a world of science and reason. When it’s truly safe, my barstool will be there.

 

I am in good health but in a high risk category and will wait for as long as it takes for a vaccine to reduce the risk. In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy my beer at home. The covid situation has also given me incentive to turn my sunroom into a bar area.

We all do. Some of us just put our fingers in our ears and close our eyes when science intrudes on our wishful thinking

 

I will cautiously be going out. Ohio is patio service only and not everyone is ready to open just yet. I almost left a brewery today because a mother was rocking her infant and kept walking up on me. It wasn’t even six inches let alone six feet. A brewery is not the place for an infant, especially right now.

 

Old Mecklenburg in Charlotte would be my choice it it wasn’t a 2 hr drive. It’s located on a 4 acre spread in Charlotte, yes 4 acres and the outside seating is absolutely enormous. Imo it would be as safe as any place to have a beer outside the home.

 

I would go out in an instant. If I get sick at some point I will blame it on a weakened immune system due to the extended social distancing enacted over the past several months. Isolation is proven to weaken immune systems and the powers that be will use that 'evidence' to propose shutting everything down again and continuous social distancing.

 

In my community outside dining will open next Friday. I would gladly return but we cannot sit at the bar until July 4. Kinda hits some of buddies who won't go because of that.

Yep, this state is full of "Massholes". I for one will be back in bars when they are fully open, not when they have some half-assed social distancing rules. I do greatly appreciate that it has been possible to obtain Tree House and Trillium throughout this ordeal.

 

Well, for starters, I work for a nanobrewery. Been curbsiding for weeks, puttin beer in trunks.

Completely support the shutdown, but we can safely do this. And people need community and social interaction.

If everybody's smart and cooperates we can do this.

I would be much more open to outdoor beer garden with seating 6’ apart. I would do that now.

 

Data is based on respiratory viruses. The CDC recommends against wearing a mask for influenza prevention because it doesn’t prevent the flu (which is spread the same way as this virus). In fact most cases of the flu are spread through poor hand hygiene and touching eyes/nose/eating and not direct respiratory droplets. The best method would be to do what the other countries also did and track the infected persons phone and prevent them from going anywhere and if they do pull them over and make them go home but that would cause more of an uproar than wearing a mask.

the only thing a mask really does is prevent asymptomatic people from spreading the virus. It doesn’t protect the people wearing them from getting it from an asymptomatic person. Given that this virus is most likely spread by people in their 10s-30s not knowing they have it the only way to prevent them from spreading is to mask them.

I will also point out that if you read the recommendations for mask wearing that you are not to touch the cloth portion in the front and are suppose to take it on and off by using the elastic or string which ever yours is made out of

 

I'll go to my favorite mug club brewery, get a mug and hang out in a corner upstairs where i can see the action from a distance...and wear my mask in the crowded areas.

 

I will attend..should schedule allow. I am not so afraid of the Chinese Virus as I have enough common sense to minimize any potential exposure. The loss of events that I truly enjoy is enough of a frustration that I am tired of the lockdown and eagerly await lifting this Bullsh*t.

 

A bar where I cannot move, bumping bodies with everyone next to me, and cannot get the bartenders attention? I've been distancing myself from those bars since college.
But sitting down at a quiet bar, trying a new beer on-tap, while supporting local business? By all means.

 

We have a new Brewery--well, an old one that is expanding to a new location, and it will be pretty close to the house. "Sketchbook" . Grand opening was delayed, so, yeah, can't wait to visit the new room!!

 

I always drink at home, but I don’t fear the virus and want to support local business, so I’ll be in the bar with my mask half off.

Agree, asymptomatic and pre symptomatic people are the driving force behind the spread of this virus. So, if I may,, people wearing masks help prevent the driving force behind the pandemic from spreading as freely and easily as it otherwise would.

So, pardon me for for putting words in yours or anyone's mouth. Obviously anyone who feels it is better to spread this disease as freely and quickly as possible would want folks not to wear masks

 

MNale has been writing reasoned posts, not saying people should run out and drink together because it's their God given right, it's a liberal conspiracy to get Biden elected, etc. You can take a second and find plenty of articles about the change in tune from the CDC and Surgeon General. My own personal experience: from the start, my wife would go on and on every day, "WHY would the CDC say masks are ineffective? They HAVE to do something!"
And I would say, "Well, they must not because the CDC is recommending against them."

And then everything changed, and I get the "I told you so!" to this day.

As soon as there's a place to go, I'll be there. Planning a trip down to Georgia for that exact purpose. Fuck drinking at home. Virus needs to spread everywhere and thin the herd anyway. Pretty sure I've had a mild case of it somewhere along the past couple of months.

 

Glad to see that you updated your info set. For many of us finding better information does little to change belief. For these folks there always will be some trick to better information, some way to hold on to the comfortable feeling of old/discredited info.

 

No way. Theres no reason to when I can get food and a growler to go and enjoy it at home where its safe and clean.
I saw all the people here in Columbus who were flocking to the bars in crowds, not social distancing, not wearing masks and just all in all not being safe and acting like fools.
Its a no for me. I hope that it all works out but if there isnt a 2nd wave of COVID in the next couple weeks or so, it wont surprise me because people just dont seem to get it.

 

As a NYer at the epicenter of the pandemic crisis in the US, it baffles me to see some people here question the science right in front of us, and to hear people still call this a hoax. Now there are reports that covid has been causing a type of Kawasaki syndrome in some children (who were previously thought to be mostly unaffected by covid). Also Texas and Wisconsin are reporting highest confirmed cases and this is before they just relaxed quarantine protocols. Is it really too much to try and be a little more careful and patient for the greater good?

 

We are one of the local pubs in our small tourist town. The local government has decided to close down all the hotels, motels, and vacation rentals in our area. Opening our pub with the draconian rules that Oregon has put in place will be extremely hard to manage. If people do not patronize our pub, we won't survive this forced imprisonment

 

SC and GA are both open for business. We have been doing outside dining and drinking for 2 weeks in both states. The hardest thing is riding in an Uber wearing a mask. As soon as we get out, the mask is in the pocket. Funny how people are.... some wear a mask and then sit down and take it off and then touch everything around them and then put their mask back on to leave... This whole thing is just a money grab by the 1% and the media. “Drink on, enjoy your 80 yrs on planet earth’ !!!!!

 

I’m guessing by Memorial Day every beach will be open, or that’ll be the goal. We have a house rented for the 3d week in July, I have no reservations with this. Well do the obvious, well wipe down the house, even though I know the rental agency has addressed that. We have a private pool, so no concerns there, it might mean more eating in and cooking, but Ill save money.

 

Not trying to call you out, but I’m genuinely curious if you have a link to any studies saying social distancing (to the degree we’re doing it at least) weakens the immune system.

There’s still bacteria and viruses in your house, at the grocery store...etc.

I don’t think two months of not going to non-essential businesses would have a drastic effect on your immune system, but I could be wrong.

If one of your loved ones was affected by this virus, would you feel differently about thinning the herd?

 

There are several outdoor options in the OKC metro. Wide spacing and disposable cups. That will suffice for the spring and summer.
