I’m a little disappointed that I had not reviewed/rated more of these… guess it gives me something to do in the cold of winter and when travel to non-awesome beer locales.

I'm shocked to see how far Corona light has fallen (risen?). It used to be universally recognized as the worst of the worst.

If you have winter please send it up here. Trails that I should be skiing on are covered with 3" of slush that tomorrow's rain will wipe out completely.

This should be an easy project. Lots of worthy contenders to sample.

Out of the handful I’ve reviewed on this list, only one of them was something I consider truly bad (Alexander Keith’s IPA — just awful). I think most of the list reflects many BAs’ biases against popular styles like AALs and Malt Liquor.

With 47, I've got almost 20% of the list ticked. And, I'm a positive Rdev on most of them.

No surprise to see a lot of AAL’s and “malt liquor” that is truly enjoyed by millions but hated by the BA crowd for seemingly no reason. I don’t even bother reviewing/rating the many beers I’ve had in these styles. If I rated them honestly and true to style and according to the enjoyment I got from them before I got into “craft” I’m sure my rdev would be 50%+. Cheers.

Some AAL's are quite good for what they are. Coors Extra Gold is on the list. I remember it being fairly tasty, almost a Vienna lager, when I lived out west, but that was many years ago when Coors was still independent. Budweiser is also very well made, though not too exciting. Sometimes that's what you want.

edit: The worst beer I ever tasted was "craft" beer from a brewpub that opened here about 15 years ago (and closed soon after). It was a stout that smelled like the aftermath of an electrical fire and tasted worse. Second worst was an infected beer at a homebrew competition a couple of years later. Nothing else has come close to those two.

Before reading your post I had quickly scrolled down the list to see which non-macro brewery would show up first. Yep, it was Minhas in the #67 position with a beer called Boxer Lager https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/435/62061/ It was last rated 3 months ago at a 5.0 score, so it's still around and someone likes it.

Have to get more people to try it, to bump it up the list . Might be a good New Year's Resolution.

I've only reviewed 7, & had a few more. 4 are +rDev, but they're mid-bottom on the list. Surprised at some on the list.
Yeah , that's now a goal - if I see a single of any of the "top" tier, I might get it.

In Search Of. Look in the trading forums for examples.

I'm a bit of a nerd about bad beer. Often, I get more excited to try a shitty beer, than some supposedly great hypebomb. Former BA member @nc41 used to send me beers he would find in antique stores, That's how I got to tick an OG Billy Beer from the '70s, and several others. I fear no beer.

Except that fucking pickle sour beer. from here forward, I'ma just treat it like a rattlesnake. Shoot the fucker, no hesitation, no questions.

Unfair that all of these are lagers, most of which are generally innoffensive.

For truly horrible beers I tend to find bitters or fruit ales are the worst.

John Smiths Golden Ale for example is disgusting. In fact I think they pulled it and if so, good choice!

Belgium produces some truly terrible beers to go with the great ones. Floris Mango is a crime against beer and for the life of me I can't get why anyone can stomach Flanders ales which to me taste like stale bitter mixed with cheap sherry.

The worst list should be badly brewed bitter/ipa ales and artificially flavoured fruit beers as they are more likely to make you heave than any lager.

Solid list of OG - AAL beers. What's one man's beer is another man's swill. I had about forty of these. The Imperial Jack comment brought me back to how bad Rhinelander Lager is. The Minhas brewery observation hit home. Had Iron City with some Steeler fan's . Noted it tasted like Bud. Had a neighbor who drank Rolling Rock and served it at his home when he grilled. Haven't had malt liquor recently and am not missing it.

The worst beer I think I ever had was Canadian Ace in a big 64oz bottle. It was really really cheap and smelled like pickled boiled egg, red hot sausages, and natural gas straight from a deposit deep in "the earth". We were embarrassed to drink it, but it was a proud type of shame. Then we were poor.

And not just any ½ gallon bottle, but a clear glass one.:grimacing: (First time I saw it, it was sitting warm next to the register at a liquor store, sort of an "impulse item". What sort of impulse, I can't say. Never tried it - even at 99¢, the price I remember best - well, that took me a ½ hour to make at my $2/hour nightwatchman job).

Yes, but you did have to be a careful shopper 'cause the price did vary - above SC and NYS.
