yeast starter question...

    New to yeast starters. Was wondering if brewing a 7 gal batch and using wyeast for an ipa... how much water and malt extract do I use? And shld I pitch 1 or 2 smack packs to it? Thanks!

    Your starter wort should have a gravity between 1.030 and 1.040. As far as size and the number of packs for a given batch size...

    Edit: about 3.5 ounces of DME per quart of water will get you close to 1.040.
