Other than Pliny, all the beers listed are pretty widely available. I can probably get most of them at any good grocery store.

I can get zombie dust for 13 bucks for a six pack near me. You’ll never hear me complain about that.

Pretty good choices in the article

I can get Pilsner Urquell for $5.99 for a 4 pack of tallboys. Otherwise, the rest of those were for singles, so not really that affordable, unless you only drink a few beers a week. I drink Pilsner Urquell out of that list regularly.

“Affordable” is obviously subjective, and I don’t think the article is suggesting anyone crush a 4-pack of Saison Dupont in a sitting (the idea that one can consume beer like water without any negative health effects is outdated). The point is that, compared to equivalent-quality wine and whisky, even the best beer is relatively inexpensive. I don’t think that’s disputable.

I see your point. Luckily I don't drink wine or hard liquor at all, ony about 7 to 10 beers a week. Usually never more than 2 in one day. Cheers!

The other thing is, I don’t think anyone only ever drinks the “best” beer, exclusive to everything else, any more than anyone only always drinks the best wine or whisky (maybe some very wealthy people, but not your average consumer). A bottle of Orval is still a treat.

They should have included that one in the article, if you ask me.

Absolutely, especially since they raised their distribution game and became more widely available. I’ve been going nuts on 3Fs beer ever since it came to VA

It is true. Although haven't had Pliny, we are very fortunate to have access to most of these beers at a decent price. The best is debatable, but hard-pressed to find most beyond $10. Can't usually find a wine to do it better or cheaper.

The thing is that with the pricey spirits and wines you're paying through your nose for time, i.e. aging in warehouses or cellars. Time doesn't benefit many beers, especially if it's excessive time. Save your money and drink beer from the 'now' generation.

I agree with that statement. The term "excessive" can be subjective but a beer style that takes a long time (i.e., several years) is lambic and these beers can be quite pricey. For example a bottle (750 ml) of Cantillon Fou' Foune will be typically priced > $30, which is too expensive for me to buy it. Still, compared to a top shelf wine this is quite cheap.

    Cheers!

That's a solid list, although it could have been written today or 10 years ago.
