I believe I'm going to have Parish Brewing's Grand Reserve 2013. There's big hype on this one in Louisiana, and I can't wait to try this one.

So I was very fortunate this holiday by having three consecutive days off. That being said I took upon myself to clear out the cellar and beer fridge a bit and share some bottles with friends. Here's what I had. What did you pop open?

    BCBS- Good as always
BCBCS- A little too sweet for me, give it time IMO
Rueuze- Great sour, not quite a Belgian lambic, but good.
CR Wake n' Bake- What a great beer, hope to see more like this from Terrapin
    Backwoods Bastard- Great as always
Abaraxas- One of the best beers, new to me, that I've tried all year
Lakefront Brewery Black Friday- Solid black ale
Windowsill- Holy sour, my mouth is still watering
Santa's Little Helper 2012 (Mikkeler)- A little muted after a year
BA Deliverance- Great ale with quite the kick
Sam Adams Utopias 10th anniversary- Do I really need to say anything
NODA Jam Session cans- Had to have something sessionable to drink. This was a great local option.
Beatification B6- This is one of my favorite beers and I was not let down by this batch soooo good.

I was impressed with what we drank and it made for a wonderful holiday. Thanks for sharing.

Between christmas and christmas eve I opened a few decent ones.

    2013 Bcbs
    2011 & 2012 Brooklyn monster
    pipeworks centennial
    2011 & 2012 Cincinnatus
    GL blackout stout

I actually picked up the 2011 monster monday night at a local shop that just had it sitting on the shelf collecting dust and aging for me.The 2011 monster was much better than the '12 and the cincinnatus 2012 was great while the 2011 was really disappointing, light in body and boozy.

Woke up and had my first ever Founders Breakfast Stout while playing XBOX and waiting for my wife to wake up. Had my second FBS with the stout glass from the 6 piece beer glass set I received, then an Alaskan IPA (not my favorite IPA, had never had it before [bummed me out, I love ABC]) from the Belgian glass from the 6pc set.

  17. TWStandley

    TWStandley Crusader (761) Jan 15, 2008 Massachusetts

    Had a very wide-range:

    1) Sam Adams Cherry Chocolate Bock - solid beer but I am not a huge cherry flavor fan.
    2) NEBCO Imperial Stout Trooper (2012) - Delicious per usual.
    3) Sam Adams Juniper IPA - meh, didn't thrill me.
    4) Sam Adams Old Fezziwig - love this beer each year.
    5) Cisco Monomoy Kriek (2012) - holy sour...this one was intense...quite good though.
    6) Allagash Tripel - Love this beer.
    7) Firestone Walker Parabola - Night cap...and what a great one. This is easily in my top 5 beers. Delicious.

Overall a solid beer drinking day.

BA Old Rasputin, John Henry, Oakes Arrogant Bastard, Double D 2IPA, and a 2011 Trader Joe's Vintage Ale. The Vintage was incredible - huge ginger nose, light and effervescent sipper with some Belgian characteristics. Didn't get to opening the 2012, that'll happen today, though.

Ninkasi Sleigh'r -- it was okay. seemed like an "indecisive" beer. kinda sweet, kinda bitter, ehhhh.
St Bernardus Christmas Ale -- very good. sweet, spicy, banana-y.
Alesmith Yulesmith Winter -- bottled 2 1/2 months ago, it's better when I had it fresher. seemed maltier and grassy. maybe don't save it for Christmas next year.
Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout -- this was really, really good. it was bottled about a year ago and the coffee was still strong. kinda bummed that it doesn't appear to be on Lagunitas limited release schedule anymore.

    Christmas Eve:

Sixpoint Winter Warmer(1st taste of it)
    Great Lakes Christmas Ale
    Bells Java Stout
    Lagunitas Sucks
Sam Adams Lager (from Sam Winter pack I bought to try Fezziwig and Chocolate Bock)

Strangely, if I am a little bit buzzed, I don't mind a lager to finish the night...also, it's not high abv.

I just have to know what this was like... The last thing that would ever occur to me when picking up some Celebration fresh hop ale is "Hey, maybe I should hold onto this for 10 years!" ...unless I didn't like IPAs, then I might think "Die hops die!!"
