Your first drain-pour

    Fat Cat Confession IPA- picked this up at a gas station to introduce someone to ipa's. It was after-hours with nothing else avaliable and poured one glass took a sip and poured out a 4 pack.

    weihnstephaner hefeweissbier...so ashamed to admit it..happened early in my craft journey and revisited it a couple years later and loved it(the thought that it might have been infected always makes me feel better lol)

    For the record, I am pretty much against drain pours. I have been drinking craft beers for about 13 years now and have yet to do it. Tonight though I had my first. I poured a bottle of Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour Ale and there was these weird gelatinous, ameoba like things floating in the beer. It wasn't the typical yeast sediment that you can have with some beers, so rather than risk it I drain poured it. I still have 1 bottle left though and would like to know what the hell that was. Can anyone with more beer chemistry knowledge than I tell me what the hell that was?

    Hmm I don't know, but that's definitely not normal.

    What a shame you had to do that to Monk's. That's a wonderful beer and an awesome bar.

    Sounds like roping: jelly-like strands- probably caused by either acetobacter or pediococcus . Something definitely went wrong with that bottle, maybe the beer became oxidized during bottling? As far as the other bottle goes, who knows- there is a possibility it could be OK, though.

    Same for me. I wanted to keep drinking in order to prevent it from being a waste, but I just couldn't drink it.

    Before I learned about craft beer I'd drink anything. Since I've learned more though the only thing I've drained is a Busch's given to me by a buddy. I've given everything else a fair chance.

    Yep, this. Got 3 down in a session, but was wondering why I kept drinking the stuff after every swig. The cherry flavor was cloying, overpowering, and medicinal to me, and the last 3 of the sixer went down the drain. Man, I hate wasting beer. Most stuff I find disagreeable I still power through.

    Bought a Coors around 95. Probably sat on a container ship for months on end. Had one sip and poured it out.

    Think the next pour was 13 years later - a German smoke beer with pork flavour.

    That would have to be Desparados Tequila Beer. I like tequila, I like beer, sounds like it's a double good thing. Wrong! This can (picked up at a local convenience store) tasted baaad! I've eaten prickly pear cactus lobes so I know bad. The majority of the can went down the drain into the sanitary sewer system of Zurich, CH, which is probably still trying to recover.

    Last night. Tatra - a Polish lager. Had drunk a couple of really nice beers already and poured aggressively but got absolutely no head whatsoever. Always a bad sign. It actually tasted tolerable but as it was a relatively high abv of 6% and a 500ml can I decided not to waste alcohol units on a beer with little merit. Maybe my can was unrepresentative as a Polish friend said this was good and I normally quite enjoy Polish lagers.

    About 6 weeks ago, it was a bomber of 2012 BC cherry rye. I really tried to like it, but I hated it.

    Almost everything I have tried from Anderson Valley. Sorry, but I can't buy another one of their beers.

    Don't remember my first, but a few that come to mind are:

    Unibroue- Trois Pistoles (Awful weird tomato paste taste.)
    Souther Tier- Creme Brulee (Way too sweet, nauseating)
    Dark Horse- One Oatmeal Stout (Soy sauce)
    And I had to power through Anchor Steam.

    Stone Punishment 2013 - I love strong beer and I love chiles, but this was too much of both. Probably should have shared it, but I don't even know anybody who would like that.

    Damn near drain-pouring this Shiner White Wing. I loved Shiner Bock back in the day, but don't go to it much in the years since I discovered craft beer. Wanted to see what they could do with a style I like. Not much, apparently. Sigh.

    I don't think I've ever drainpoured. I tend to finish what I start, even if it's that bad and I have to choke it down. It's a learning experience.

    Wild blue would be the first, though my second was just moments ago. I couldn't stomach O'Fallon Cherry Chocolate Beer. It was like trying to drink a cherry tootsie pop; hated to do it but that one's just not for me!

    You don't need a refined palette to know if a beer is sometimes just to "boozy" or spicy. Trust me, I think a lot of us want to finish them but occasionally it's too hard.
