Agreed. I do wish the top 250 had a few filters you could apply. I would love to see something like the following filters:
    - only include ratings that also have a review
    - Filter by location (country, state, etc...)
    - Filter by date (reviews in the last year, last 6 months, ever, etc...)
    - Filter by beer style

Something like this would be really cool

I agree. That is why the top AAL's I capped out at 4.3 and can't give the best anywhere close to what a 5 beer tastes like. I've got hundred of beers from many other styles rated much higher.

I think the best feature for helping a person to rate a beer most accurately is the following:
    1) you type in the name of the beer your drinking into BA website
    2) somehow there is a feature where if you are doing a rating/review, no average score or bros. score pops up and the reviews of past people are hidden (so no peer pressure or group think influence or bias towards your review)
    3) after you type in the beer name, on right side of screen will be a list of all of your previous same style beers you've rated will show in your rank order and value from best at the top to worst at the bottom
    4) after you save your review you can then read other past reviews and then edit if you feel necessary

Being able to see where your beer should be scored based on other beers in the same style you've had is what I end up doing anyway, to make sure I score it correctly so it would save me alot of time. Most others I know do the same to make sure they rank their beers how they feel they should be.

My two most underrated beers according to rDev are both beers which I am not particularly excited about, but respect for what they are - which differentiates me from most members here. Those being Labatt Prohibition Series Apple Harvest Ale and (*sigh*) Boxer Ice. I rated both in the mid 3's which gave them an astronomical rDev.

My most overrated beers are San Miguel and Brooklyn Lager. While I like a lot of the beers I've had from Brooklyn Brewery, I never understood the fuzz about their lager which I avoid like the plague. I've never had San Miguel from the tap, and realize that my impression of it might be skewed. But boy do I have awful memories of it. Just an awful combination of a watery and distasteful flavor.

I think I start from a slightly different ratings premise than many (the relative success of a beer's executing its stated intention is a very important criterion for me, for instance, even if it isn't my favorite style/trajectory/flavor-profile), so I have a pretty fair number of rDevs > +/-10%, but the two tops are:

    Red Horse Malt Liquor: +39.9%
    New Holland White Hatter: -30.2%

That is a great idea. Would work extremely well. Only problem for me is I tend to have read reviews and checked ratings before I buy, so I am already biased before I even pick it up at the store!
Still - your solution would be very effective

I actually would prefer that Lambics, etc get compared to Impy Stouts, inasmuch as they are all "beer." Let the best "styles" win, so to speak. But I certainly get your point. Styles are useful in determining whether one just might like the beer about to hit their lips.

I'm gonna chalk up that double bastard rating to being not long after my first taste of speedway stout. Or maybe I just hate triple IPAs.

    Over the top...
Sierra Nevada's Terra Incognita +30.3 :grinning: - I'm sticking by my contention that, aside from how much I really liked the beer, being labeled an American wild ale probably mislead people (it struck me as more of an Imperial brown) and skewed its reception

    Under the table...
Ommegang's Aphrodite -59.9 :grimacing: - this goes back a few years to when I was averse to sours, and this was recommended to me by despite my stated aversion - I'd probably rate it differently now, but unless I return to it, this pink ale remains my deepest below the rDev

I do the same thing and I hate seeing something like chile beer that is negatively rated because people didn't like the spice.

My highest positive deviation has remained the same: Avery's Kaiser. I had a 4 year old bottle to kick off Oktoberfest this year and it was amazing.

My highest negative deviation has changed: Bent River Jingle Java. I bought a six-pack because a bartender told me they blew a keg in one night and it was amazing. I still have two sitting in my cellar that I'm waiting to give away. The beer is packed with artificial flavoring and I hate it. It's appalling to me that people love this beer.

it's also assuming that everyone has the same understanding of what a beer "should" taste like. or what a style "should" taste/look/feel like.

    impossible

it is a limited circle of people that believe their interpretation/understanding is the absolute correct one that everyone else should inherently agree to.

more likely you're going to have 10 guys in a room with 10 different opinions.
