I tend to be more of a lager lover and rate them higher than the rDev more often than not.

Just posted a positive a review of a good brew and received a negative rDev...what's the point of posting on the board?...Might as well use this site as a reference only....?

You know rDev is how much your score deviates from the average score, right? It's not a score on how well you rated the beer.

out of 737 review I have:

    276 positive
    8 neutral
    453 negative

Which I feel is appropriate, as most scores are inflated in my opinion.

I don't know where to find that information but I always feel a little strange when my review is exactly the average score. =) On some I deviate quite a bit, and others not so much.

Of the 1973 I've had so far:
45 Neutral(there are quite a few that I've added and am the only reviewer of)
    648 -

I've found that I'm a very generous rater when it comes to appearance and mouthfeel and that could explain why my +numbers far outnumber my - count.

Sounds about right. I tend to agree 100% with very few people on most topics. Well, brewers, odds are I'm gonna dig your beers more than most folks do.

Now would a LIKES to POSTS ratio be an acceptable thread? Probably would get the ax.;)

All right, I think my hangup was that I wanted to only count reviews, not Hads. So, out of 913 ratings:

    641 Positive
    9 Neutral
    263 Negative

I knew my ratings mostly swing toward the positive because I just love beer and try to find meaning and good qualities in even the more "subpar" offerings by a brewery. What I find interesting is, when the negative curve begins, it's a lot of widely renowned beers that are in the beginning: Pliny (-0.2%), Sexual Chocolate (-0.2%), Rum barrel Hunahpu (-0.7%), FBS (-1.3%) which tells me that I'm more critical of hyped beers but I give the underdogs more leeway. Interesting how perception can slightly change our rating patterns. The most hilarious thing is my biggest positive Rdev is no longer Voodoo Doughnut Maple Bacon at +38.7% but now Bud Light Chelada at +47.9% even though I only gave it a 2.5!

I don't necessarily think the above ratio really translates unless we also disclose our mean score, which for me is a 3.84.

Pretty even between positive and negative. Quite a few were only 2% deviation or less one way or the other, which basically tells me that I'm on point with the average for those beers. 1-2% isn't very significant.

It's all opinion based anyway. No palate is the same, so no one can be objectively judge a beer the same as someone else. I'd say its a good thing your standards are high.

Depends on why you review in the first place. Tickers are pokemon card players, I would expect them to be more negative, they will drink any swill to make a tick. ( I suspect the vast majority of them have self esteem issues ) I on the other hand (for the most part, unless something is awful beyond belief and I review as a warning to mankind ) only review beers I like. Therefore my rDev will be overwhelmingly positive, along with my disposition and overall view of life. Cheers!

I'm glad to see this thread be revived as I missed it the first time around. I actually chuckled when I saw the thread title because I figured my numbers would be quite atypical. I give average beers an average rating, and I hope people look at my overall score for a beer instead of at my rdev. I'm not contrarian, and I do my best to disallow others' ratings from influencing my own.

    Out of 2620 reviews posted:

    214 Positive rdev (~8.1%)
    102 Neutral rdev (~3.8%)
    2304 Negative rdev (~87.9%)
