I'm going to go with Evil Twin 'Lil B. That shit was awesome. A massive porter with a super nice dark fruit character making it stand out to my taste buds. I liked a lot of beers this year, but that one really stood out.

This has been quite the year, beer wise, and in life also for me. I moved across the country from Ohio to Portland. In doing so, I had the chance to sample many delicious beers, particularly many stand out offerings from Funkwerks and Odell.

    Top new beers of 2012:
    Super IPA
    Alpine Double Nelson
    Stone Ruination 10th
    Founders Sumatra Mountain Brown
    Cherry Bourbon County (DLD 2012)

Top Beers I had for the first time this year:
    Alpine Duet
    Boneyard Hop Venom
    Logsdon Seizoen Bretta
    Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Barleywine
    King Henry
2012 Cherry Adam from the Wood
    2009 Cable Car

All in all 2012 was an incredible year.

    1. Cigar City Imperial Sweet Stout - Cognac BA: Never had a cognac barrel aged beer and after having this, it needs to be done more. Another amazing original stout from CC.

    2. Cigar City Apple Brandy Hunahpu: My first apple brandy aged beer. I didn't think it was possible to make Hunahpu any better but this is the one varient that blows the others away.

    3. Kern River Citra: I've been lucky to have tried almost all the top DIPA's and this is a close #2 for me behind Heady Topper.

    4. The Bruery Chocolate Rain: To make a beer at 19.5% this good is an amazing accomplishment.

    5. Stone Enjoy By: I'm not a huge fan of Stone's IPA's but this one blew me away. Amazing stuff and a nice transition from their normal bitter dry IPA's.

    6. The Bruery Fruet: I'm a huge fan of high ABV beers and I'm always amazed how The Bruery continues to put out quality brews 15% ABV and higher. Excited to see how this one ages.

    7. Evil Twin Imperial Biscotti Break: This first beer from Evil Twin that has blown me away. One of the biggest surprises of the year for me.

    8. Goose Island BCS '12: Just like most people I was a little nervous about the InBev takeover and the future of this beer. They nailed it again and one of my favorite vintages.

    9. Goose Island BCBCS '12: I prefer last year's but this is still an amazing vintage. The most unique BA Coffee stout I've ever had.

    10. Three Floyd's Zombie Dust: I'm not a fan of APA's and I've had some of the best. This one is might have changed my mind. Amazing stuff

And going to throw in Captain Lawrence Freshchester Pale Ale, not an awesome beer, but a local restaurant who makes great food serves this now. I can get a great meal in an excellent atmosphere with craft beer.

Of all of the beers I tried, Schlafly T IPA was the most surprising. I actually asked the bartender (semibaked) if he was "fucking kidding me?" when offering a free pour. I've since probably spent $50 on fills and bottles.

Top five? Let's see what I can remember... No particular order...

Goose Island - Bottle of Sofie from 2009, man that was good.
Three Heads Brewing - Ontario Coast Belgian IPA
    Brooklyn Brewery - Local 2
Flying Bison Brewing Company - The "Herc" Barleywine Style Ale, 2011
    Sierra Nevada - Estate 2012

Runner up would probably be a bottle of Goose Island - Night Stalker from 2010, very tasty. 2012 was such a good year for beer, I feel like a dick leaving things I love out. I love beer.
