Hubby is a diehard Yuengling lover but I did finally get him to appreciate FatTire from Co and troeggenator. he is just not so adventurous.

SO overrated. PA brags more on Yuengling than Michigan does for Founders and Bells, or SD does for any one of their many superior breweries.

I enjoy it whenever I come across it. Boggles my mind its not distributed in MASS. From my personal experiences it seems like a lot of people that don't know a whole lot about beer think that its the best beer ever. Why? I do not know.

I enjoy Yuengling when we're in Tampa for holiday. When I'm back in Michigan (enjoying Founders & Bells) we never miss it.

:astonished: It's really not that complicated...
It's not extraordinary, it's extraordinary for a macro. Don't compare it to SNPA, compare it to other beers that are similarly cheap and widely-available (and Yuengling is more widely available than SA or SN in my neck of the woods). If you want craft beer, drink craft beer. If you find yourself in a bar/stadium/picnic that only has BMC or Yuengling available, drink the Yuengling.

Maybe you could educate me. What "hype" was associated with Yuengling? Did you expect a lot from a cheap AAL beer?

    Cheers!

Maybe hype is the wrong word, but I think I understand what these folks are getting at.

Not too long ago, there was a thread posted on the NW forum from some guy out of NJ who was thinking about bringing out a couple cases of Yuengling for a trip to Portland. He acted as if he was bringing out liquid gold, and in fact there were some Pa. transplants who were pretty excited about it. Here's the thread:

I think this is what most people are referring to when they talk about the hype surrounding Yuengling.

It is a go to for me when I end up at an establishment that does not offer better choices. As it's bottled here, it is pretty much at any bar, restaurant or event you could attend down here.

Not true. I would even go as far to say that a stranger farting in my direction, then giving me a piece of Hubba Bubba for my troubles would beat that.

Yuengling is simply the best cheap domestic beer.
Throwing a party with a lot of people? Yeah you could spend a fortune buying amazing craft beer for everyone, or you can just get a keg of Yueng. (Most) everyone will be happy with it. Compared to all the other swill on the market, Yuengling is the best.
The Black and Tan is really good, the Porter is solid. Premium, however, sucks, and is not worth the extra dollar for a 6pack

"Premium" was Yuengling's flagship beer for most of the post-Repeal era - the "Traditional Lager" wasn't released until the late 1980's. It's a pretty standard US-style adjunct lager. In NJ (and, I assume, PA - though I haven't looked in decades) it's long been sold in the popular/discount price segment - a few bucks cheaper than a case of "Lager" and all the other Yuengling products. Surprised to read that it's an "extra dollar" in other markets.

Yuengling came to North Carolina...I dunno, 10 years ago? more? At first everyone was like, whats this Chinese beer? But now you can find the Lager in every bar, every store, every where in the state. Even pharmacies carry Yuengling. I saw the Premium for the first time a couple years ago, and yes, it was 1 dollar more than the Lager 6pack. Still is. And its just not worth that price. The Premium tastes...oily almost

I like it. Especially if I'm just "drinking" like at a tailgate or something. However, I think it tastes best out of a can. Don't like it bottled. And don't get the Light version. Horrible.

QFT. In the context of beer, I read the word premium as a synonym for "terrible," and it's never failed me.

-Yeah, give her a go if u get the chance & want to... it's Pretty decent. I'm not a "Yinger" guy anymore....but the Bock, Black & Tan I feel are their best offerings anymore. -- like the above statement, I too: " burned out on Yuengling yrs ago " but..my tastes have changed Greatly over the last few yrs.

Had it at a wedding reception in Weirton, WV. last year. I chose it over the usual BMC offerings that were to be had, and I thought it was really good. I wish it was more widespread; I'd love to find it at a concert or baseball game instead of the usual suspects.

I usually only pick it up when it's on sale. Either lager or black and tan typically 9.99 for a 12 pack at Publix is enough for me to pick it up. Great value if you ask me.
