Being willing to drink it out of respect for a host's hospitality is one thing, and quite understandable. Claiming it's a good beer casts suspicion on one's experience in the beer world.

Yuengling is good for an adjunct lager. It is a lot more flavorful than BMC, and costs about the same or less. It is not a craft beer. People from PA love it more than most. I can't for the life of me understand why so many keystrokes have been wasted discussing its merits.

So does completely lacking any sort of review history, while at the same time criticizing the tastes of others.

God knows i wouldn't want you to be suspicious of my experience in beer.

"Experience in the beer world" has nothing to do with palate or opinion. Hell, I've worked in the industry for several years and my palate is garbage! or it must be since (shhh......) i kinda think yuengling's good!

I wouldn't seek it out, but I have no problem drinking it.

I live in PA, so I've been drinking it since I first started drinking beer. It's a decent option if you don't feel like spending the money on craft.

It's good for what it is. It's the beer that you are happy to see when the previous four taps are PBR, Miller Lite, Bud Light, and Coors Light.

I wanted a beer at a RUSH concert a few years ago and it was all they had I would even think about drinking. I wished after wards I would have gone for the wine.:flushed::grimacing:

uhm... really? You'd rather pay $12 for two 6-packs of bad Vitamin Water than $12-13 for a 12-pack of SNPA, Torpedo or Summertime? Or $13-14 for Hoegaarden, Sam Adams, Harpoon, Bass? Even Warsteiner, Heineken, Long Trail and Shipyard are better at that price, although they are never on my shopping list. I can understand people who've grown up with it and drink nothing else drinking it... But anyone here?? Guinness (or Harp or Smithwick's) and Pilsner Urquell might set you back another $1 for 12. I'd rather drink water.

Maybe. To me it says that they've wasted another tap instead of having something better.

Can't agree with you there. Long Trail is more expensive, Shipyard I don't know very well but it probably is too. Warsteiner I think is more expensive, bland, and watery than Yuengling; I'd never opt for the former. Additionally none of those have the market presence here that Yuengling does. Not even close. Yuengling is as common here as Bud Lite.

Heineken we'll just have to agree to disagree as I think it's one of the worst beers I've ever had. I'd choose BMC lite over Heineken any day of the week.

Again, Yuengling is not a great beer, but it's a good macro, and available everywhere.

Yuengling is family run for generations and makes a quite palateable brew. That's it. My mother in law (from Pa.) once brought me cases of the porter on her trips home.

I don't know about cheaper, but yes it's often the same. $5-6 for a six pack in the store, $2 for a pint (outside of happy hour) is not at all uncommon here.

I've never been a fan of Heineken (except Dark), but I certainly would not rate it lower than Yuengling. Calling Warsteiner "watery" next to Yuengling is almost laughable--as Yuengling is the definition of "watery" to me, but it is a fairly low-end import. As for distribution, it all depends where "here" is. Not sure if you can get Yuengling anywhere in MA, but no store within 20 miles of my house carries it. I can tell you the prices from two local stores (one in Newton, one on Cape Cod): Heineken is $12 for 12 in both; SN(PA, Torpedo, Summerfest) $14 and $13, Wasteiner $12 and $14 (plus rebate), Long Trail $13 and $14, Shipyard $14 and $14 (although I've seen it for $13 elsewhere), Bass (US bottling) is $12.49 and $14. Again, other than Sierra Nevada, I would not choose any of them (I tried an LT mixed pack and won't touch them again). I tried the new version of Bass and was disappointed, although it's still better than Y. I would not call Y "swill" as I would refer to most macros, but I could never understand why anyone would drink it and even rave about it. But some people prefer the taste of Miller HL or swear by Coors or Bud Light. There's no accounting for taste. You can have all the Y you want.

On BA, Yuengling carries the same score as Warsteiner and a significantly higher score than Heineken, so I'm hardly alone.

"Here" is the Delaware Valley, where if you tell the bartender you want "lager," you allegedly get Yuengling (I have not tried this, but I have seen signs in bars claiming such). It's also very prevalent in Maryland, though I can't speak for other states in its distro.

You're still overestimating the price of Yuengling. I can get a 12 packs of cans for about $9. That's what it is, a BMC alternative: the Mid-Atlantic's best combination of cheap, widely-available, and drinkable. If you have never wanted a cheap beer, fine, but many people on this site do, and Yuengling is among the best at its price point. No more and no less.

It's Heineken, Amstel, Beck's, Dos Equis, Corona, etc. that confuse me. Why would anyone pay import prices for something so awful? I wouldn't buy Yuengling either if it was priced like those, but again, it isn't.

I don't like amber lagers much...but overall, Yuengling is one of the most drinkable of the cheap macro beers.
