Zwanze Day 2012 is set to take place on Saturday, December 1, 2012.

We know that it's an exciting release, but there were far too many threads on Cantillon's Zwanze Day 2012 and most contained little to no info or should have been dropped into the calendar. So in an attempt to consolidate, provide a single thread for info and keep the forums clean, let's call this the official Zwanze Day 2012 thread. Feel free to post more info as it's made available, and please submit any related release events/gatherings/meetups in the BA Calendar.

    Thanks!

Glad it's coming to Denver, more specifically Crooked Stave, and hoping it's a ticketed release some how.

Never having attended a Zwanze Day event before, I'm curious - aside from the beer brewed specifically for Zwanze Day (which I assume is showing up in kegs only), has there customarily been anything else in particular done at the participating bars? I suppose that might be up to the individual bars in question, but wondering if there's anything else common to the event.

There's really no constant. At Russian River last year it was just Zwanze and their other stuff, but some places have tons of different Cantillon kegs on too. I'd expect Trappist to do some extra stuff, but they may not. Ask Chuck next time you see him!

This is only the second Zwanze day but bars set it up as a special event with a nice tap list and bottle selection available beyond the Zwanze beer. 2010 Zwanze bottles were distributed to bars too so who knows if Cantillon will offer something else like that this year

Didn't RR also have a keg of Iris as well?

I know we make a real effort to put on an outstanding tap list for that entire weekend. There just isn't enough Zwanze to keep every happy through the duration of the wait so we have kegs and bottles we have cellared since last year in anticipation of being chosen again. I'm sure many , of not all of the other bars take the same approach. Cantillon offers the Zwanze plus one other cantillon keg to the participating bars but we also get access to fresh de la Senne and some of us have cellared kegs and bottles. we try to make it a real celebration of the style and the brewery rather than just a one beer tapping.

I wasn't there, but I'm pretty sure Monk's went all out last year with all kinds of great beer available. Then again, they tend to do that for Cantillon events.

like some others said, it's different everywhere but most places seemed to make a pretty big event out of it. in philly they had bottles of 2010 zwanze as well as kegs of other cantillon beers (mamouche and some others i forget right now). they also handed out cantillon flute glasses and there were tshirts for sale too.

Were they special flute for the event or was it just the standard flute with the Cantillon logo?

So how early should I arrive for Zwanze day at the bar? Start waiting outside in the morning if it's not a ticketed event?

Last year the tapping was a 3pm EST, and I arrived at the bar in Brooklyn about 15 minutes before they opened at noon so that I would be assured of having a seat at the bar. There were a couple people that also showed by by 12pm, but I could have arrived a bit later and still gotten a pour.

Last year, we showed up about 45 minutes before tickets were sold and thought we were gonna be out of luck. Turned out there was only 6 people ahead of us and people came and went at their leisure for the rest of the day. I think this year will end up being a bigger clusterfuck, but not like 4 AM arrival clusterfuck.

Depends on where you go. We are open 24 hours and start tapping rare beers the day before. So last year people drank DF and other Cantillons while waiting for the Zwanze tapping. Some people showed up as early at 8am but they had a pretty good time relaxing with all the other sours while they waited. It was a great, fun day.

Have any of the venues sold tickets in the past or is it just show up whenever and the first in line get pours?

Any idea how busy West Lakeview will get? I've never been there and would prefer this location (all are a drive for me) since I have a friend I'd like to see in Chicago. But if it's likely to be a shitshow given the population size I may try to do Holy Grale instead...

Yeah everything seems to be ramping up in intensity exponentially anymore, but good to hear it wasn't crazy last year at least.
