anyone here ever attended Zwanze @ Masia Agullons in Spain? I'll be in Barcelona at that time & looking for advice/suggestions regarding transit (likely have to rent a car I'm guessing) and lodging in the area...

    Cheers!

American Solera :sunglasses: Here is to hoping that I might actually be able to attend it this year. I am a Solera Society Member but I do not think they are giving any priority to members on this event.

If you can nab tickets it's absolutely worth it. The last two years of SP Zwanze have been our favorite beer fests we've been to.

Another year of wishing they'd move it to Beer Temple or another Chicago location that isn't West Lakeview, and another year of disappointment. Expected but obnoxious nonetheless. I'll unfortunately be missing this year anyway, though, so it ultimately doesn't matter. Great fest when it's put on elsewhere, though. Cantillon never disappoints.

I happened to be in Copenhagen for last year's Zwanze Day, and it was amazing. First, I rolled into Himmeriget around 10 pm and I kid you not, there was NO WAIT. Zero. Went right up to the bar and ordered a Zwanze beer (which lasted through the entire evening), and found a place to sit within a few minutes. My drinking companions and I proceeded to try a bunch of bottles from their special Zwanze day list. By midnight, there were even empty seats.

There's a good chance I'll never have a better beer drinking night for my entire life. The fact that it was so relaxing made it easy to have fun and not worry about jostling for space, or waiting in line for your next beer, or wonder if they're going to run out of whatever. Highly recommended.

It's too bad they've been overselling the fest the last few years. It's way too crowded and annoying in there. Such a cool location, such great guys that run the place, and obviously still a great fest, but it could be better if they sold fewer tickets.

I'll take your word for it as I've never been. That's too bad though. Guess I should've gone the first year they had it. Kind of like how I wished I'd gone to some of the first TG releases before they became global events haha. I dont even attempt to get tickets to those

I think it is still worth your time. It is not wall-to-wall people, just more than I think is comfortable. Your opinion may vary, and it still manages to be a pretty fun event with excellent beers regardless.

The Crooked Stave Zwanze events are probably the best events they have ever run. Not a fan of them holding back all the lambics for a single day, but is IS a damn good time.

Didn't you get the email?!? Cantillon sent one to every beer geek in NYC asking where they lived and worked so that they wouldn't have to take the subway. Check your spam folder.

This is up to the specific locations. They all run things differently. What won't change is that the Zwanze beer is always draft-only (it has been bottled in the past, and may be this time, but those bottles are kept by Cantillon for on-site to my knowledge, so you won't see any bottles Stateside).

I have been to two locations for Zwanze, so I'll tell you that my experience is that there will be other Cantillon beers (and other high-end beers from other breweries) on draft besides Zwanze in addition to the opportunity to buy take-home bottles of Classic Gueuze, Rosé de Gambrinus, Kriek, and even some higher-end Cantillon bottles (plus some Drie Fonteinen bottles, too). This is not a guarantee from year to year, and I certainly can't speak for the DC location since I have never been there. Hopefully someone that has been to that specific location can attest to their experience.

But did it get sent Stateside as Zwanze around Zwanze time, or did it get sent later as Mamouche? I was talking explicitly about the Zwanze, not when/if it gets an actual name and consistent release.

Does anyone have any info on the Zwanze events in Belgium? Are they ticketed or is there certain locations better than others.

I don't think most locations stateside offer bottles to go as the drops they get are so small (I do not know this for certain, though- so it never hurts to ask...)

As I stated above, both of the locations I have visited over the last several years attending have had to-go bottles. It doesn't mean they will this year, but it has happened with consistency in the past. Obviously different locations vary completely in how they run things, though.

The Side Project Zwanze Day 2017 was easily the best festival I have been to. More beer than can be drank with plenty of staffing! Great setup that is somewhat spread out but compact.
