Introducing: Project Extreme Brewing (a Dogfish Head + BeerAdvocate project)

2008 Holiday Ale Festival

What: Beer Festival

When: Saturday - December 06, 2008 @ 11:00AM to Saturday - December 06, 2008 @ 10:00PM

Where: Pioneer Courthouse Square, Portland, Oregon

The Holiday Ale Festival is a joyous tradition among beer lovers who treasure the big beers of winter. Held outdoors in the chilly month of Dec., the festival pours more than three-dozen robust winter craft brews, the majority of which have either been created specifically for the event, or are vintage or reserve beers not available in the general market. It is effectively the most prestigious winter beer sampling opportunity on the West Coast.

UPDATE (10/30):
The 13th annual Holiday Ale Festival will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 3, and continue through Sunday, Dec. 7 at Pioneer Courthouse Square, located at 701 SW Sixth Ave at the intersection of SW Broadway and Yamhill Streets, immediately on the MAX Light Rail line.

Wednesday 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Admission is *FREE* into the Festival!

To taste beers, the purchase of an initial $20 tasting package is required. This package includes a souvenir mug and 10 beer tickets. Additional tickets can be purchased for $1 each. Previous years' mugs cannot be used; however, current year mugs can be reused on subsequent visits within the same yearly festival.

A "taster" size pour of beer (4oz) requires one ticket (a few limited release and special tapping beers require two tickets). A full mug of beer (14oz) requires four tickets (some limited release and special tappings may not be available in full mug pours).

The festival stops selling beer tickets 1/2 hour prior to the taps closing.

The event is for ages 21 and over.
Despite winter-like temperatures and often-inclement weather, attendees stay warm and dry under a large clear tent that covers the venue while allowing for views of the city lights. Gas heaters create a cozy ambience under the boughs of one of the region's largest decorated Christmas trees. In addition to beer tasting, the festival also features on-site food, beer merchandise, complimentary sodas for designated drivers, mead sampling, and seasonal background music.

Also returning to the event is the Brewers Brunch, taking place on Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to Noon on the upper level of Pioneer Courthouse Square. The auxiliary event features breakfast and an assortment of local and imported winter beers not available at the festival itself. http://beeradvocate.com/events/info/21188
