Ten to fifteen years ago, when the American craft beer boom was in its adolescent stage, the trend among breweries was to break away from basic, accepted beer styles and to push recipes to their limits: more malt, more hops, more alcohol. Brutally bitter and strong IPAs—made famous by breweries like Stone and Dogfish Head—became extremely popular among not only aficionados but a quickly-growing demographic of casual beer drinkers.

As the winds of change have moved rapidly through this industry, the pendulum has swung in the other direction; instead of focusing on pushing hoppy beers to the extreme, breweries today have become increasingly dedicated to creating easy-drinking beers that satisfy hop cravings without the alcohol buzz of a Stone Ruination or a Dogfish 90-Minute IPA.

This Tuesday we'll be looking at five examples of this new and somewhat controversial beer style. As usual, Tuesday Night Tastings are free, fun and open to the public, but be sure to arrive early, as seating is limited. Cheers!
