Surly Tap Takeover Featuring 2016 Darkness, 2017 Pentagram & Wet

What: Beer & Food

When: Thursday - October 26, 2017 @ 04:00PM

Where: Mac's Wood Grilled, Chicago, Illinois
Mac’s Wood Grilled hosts Minnesota’s Surly Brewing Company for a tap takeover showcasing three limited release/seasonal beers. Be one of the few in Chicago to get a taste of the 2016 Darkness Russian Imperial Stout, and the 2017 Pentagram Brett Dark Ale; both brews have extremely limited availability in Chicagoland. Also enjoy the wet-hopped Wet, a West Coast-style IPA that was released in September after a two-year hiatus. Two year-round bestsellers, Xtra-Citra Pale Ale and Hell German-style Munich Helles Lager, complete the featured beer list.

The beers will be tapped at 4 p.m. and the Surly crew will be in-house for beer education and giveaways from 6-9 p.m. There is no cover charge and beers range from $4.50 to $9 each (sizes vary). Food specials for the event include $3 Devil’s Darkness tacos (spicy ground beef, jalapenos, pico de gallo and lettuce). Mac’s Wood Grilled is open from 4 p.m.-2 a.m. on Thursday, October 26 and the kitchen is open until 11 p.m.

BEER INFORMATION/TASTING NOTES

2016 Darkness, Russian Imperial Stout, Rare/Limited Release, 12.0% ABV
This is a massive opaque black stout with flavors of chocolate, dried dark cherries, raisins, coffee and toffee.

2017 Pentagram, Brett Dark Ale, Rare/Limited/Seasonal, 7.0% ABV
This 100-percent Brettanomyces ale is fermented in stainless steel and aged in used red wine barrels. Flavors of sour cherry, tobacco, oak, and classic “Brett” barnyard funk balanced by Dark Munich malt chewiness.

WET, West Coast-Style IPA, Seasonal/Last Released in 2015, 7.2% ABV
The hops change each year; the 2017 WET is brewed with 100% Mosaic hops. This wet-hopped ale is made with fresh-picked hops from Yakima, Washington. This IPA packs a dank, tropical wallop with notes of tangerine, papaya and grass.

Xtra-Citra, Pale Ale, Year-Round, 4.5% ABV
This sessionable hoppy pale ale is bursting with Citra hop flavor and tropical, citrusy notes.

Hell, German-Style Munich Helles Lager, Year-Round, 5% ABV
Similar to a German Zwickel Bier, this unfiltered lager has bready malt aromas and flavors, floral hop aroma, and a balanced finish. The color is “hell,” which means light in German.
