Riffing on the DNA of some of our favorite barrel-aged beers we have ever produced, Fire on the Coals exudes rich notes of aged brandy, chocolate covered cherry, toasted English walnut, rum-soaked raisins, and German chocolate cake.

Picked up a bottle at the Brewery in Athens, OH 5-24-23 for $11.99. 2022 bottling enjoyed 5-29-24.
Beer poured dark brown with an okay off white head that dissipated quickly.
Nose is a mildly roasted malt base that yields notes of chocolate while the barrel gives some vanilla and bourbon.
Taste is spot on as the large malt base gives me notes of chocolate and the barrels imparts notes of leather and vanilla. Finishes nicely balanced with the bourbon providing some warming with each sip.
Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and smooth.
Overall a very nice imperial porter, glad i picked it up!

375 ml bottle into a snifter. 2022 edition- bourbon barrel aged, had 12/28/23.
Pours a deep brown, opaque, with a brief head and speckled cling. Aromas of bourbon, oak, figs, vanilla, malt, some chocolate and brown sugar, some caramel, light raisins. Mostly similar flavors: bourbon, figs, malt, oak, caramel, vanilla, some brown sugar and raisins, light chocolate. Smooth, a very good fuller body, appropriately carbonated.
Another BA winner from Jackie O’s. Prominent barrels, with an array of distinct aromas and flavors that pop. Notably vanilla, figs and oak. Really enjoyable.

Wow, there are a lot of layers here. Rich, fudgy chocolate, rummy brown sugar, coconut, toasted nuts, and vanilla. Plenty of well incorporated booze that oddly does not come across as bourbon. It's vaguely vinous and has some qualities to it. As usual with Jackie, the carbonation is light but the body is lush, full, and extremely satisfying. Great beer here.

Poured from a 2022 production bottle, 13 ounces, into the Tess class
A- dark as the deepest knight light carbonation fairy little cap. A thin ring continues.
S - all the hallmarks of bourbon barrel, blackstrap molasses, dark, brown sugar, dark age, fruit
T - follows the aromatic well, there’s a spiciness reminiscent of cinnamon and black pepper, overall outstanding
M - this is a thick offering hefty is the best way to describe it semi sweet Start and semi sweet finish
O - a porter bordering on stealth territory with all of the Jackie Os signature barrel program this sipper takes some time. A real treat.

Very dark brown, almost black. Poured nicely with no head. 98% opaque: when held up to kitchen light the darkness shows its brown core just a bit. Chocolate, bourbon, maybe red cherry, brown sugar. Full body on the edge of chewy, but not quite. Balance ... so many flavors I am not experienced or sophisticated enough to identify, but I like every one of those tastes. Nothing off-putting. A lingering, delightful finish just trails off slowly without leaving anything unpleasant behind. The body of a Stout. The taste of nothing I have previously experienced. This is really good.

Probably the second strongest beer I've ever tried next to Dogfish's World Wide Stout at 16.3%.
This brew straight knocked me on my ass with one sip. It's got some kick, like a shot of bourbon but with way more calories. Hell of a brew.

Description: Flat, glassy black appearance with no head or lacing. The smell is robust with noticeable dark fruits, rum, bourbon and roasted aromas. Taste is rich, decadent and complex with the same dark fruit and bourbon notes of the smell along with a chocolate/roasted flavor. It's sweet and the alcohol is well hidden. Feel is thick, smooth and syrupy with low carbonation.
Overall: 4.5 (This beer is very good and I would definitely drink it again) A fantastic beer all around, as expected. The line between 'stout' and 'porter' at Jackie O's seems to be a very thin one. Not that I'm complaining, just saying. This is a beer to sip slowly, savor and save for a special occasion.

12.7 oz bottle served in a snifter glass. 2022 bottling.
Appearance: A good pour yielded no foam and some sediment in the bottle. At 14% ABV, I'm not expecting much foam, but there was nothing, no lacing at all. Very dark brown letting only a very little light through at the top edges of the glass.
Smell: Mostly bourbon, but there is a bit of chocolate cherry under it all.
Taste: Bourbon, vanilla, chocolate covered cherry, a bit of chocolate cake as well, and I'll be damned....I do actually taste something like walnut in this.
Mouthfeel: Very thick, creamy, and smooth. Little to no carbonation. A little sticky on the teeth and a little bit of a dry finish as well. A little warming from the alcohol lingers on the tongue about 15-20 seconds after the sip - it doesn't show up right away.
Overall / Drinkability: Really quite something - and with incredibly well hidden high alcohol. This thing is dangerously drinkable, and the flavors are quite yummy. A slow sipping and savoring beer for sure, and a great beer to end the year with.
