Bourbon barrel-aged barleywine, brewed with Maris Otter, Munich, brown sugar, and lots of caramel malt. Ten malts, a long boil, and barrel aging came together to create a complex barleywine with notes of rich caramel, oolong tea, bruleed sugar, and well-aged spirit.

Look: It pours brown with a tan head. It has below average head retention.
Smell: It has caramel and toffee aromas up front. It has some earthly notes to it with bourbon in support. There are slight nut notes with very low dark fruit well into the background.
Taste: It has strong caramel and toffee flavors with bourbon close in support. There are stronger dark fruits most like dark cherries. There are some very low tea notes as well.
Feel: It has a full body with strong alcohol warming. It finishes on the sweet side.
Overall, a good combination of malts with plenty of flavors enhance by the bourbon.

Pretty good and very drinkable barleywine. A touch of hops. Ten months later, holds up well, can from the source. Care in the crafting. Decent though not exceptional mouthfeel.

12oz can dated: 03-06-25 and poured into a tulip glass shows a muddy brown, headless body leaving the glass clean.
Enticing stone fruit, vanilla, bourbon, and brown sugar aromas flow smoothly into the taste. Easy drinking sweetness tempered by the bourbon.
Mouthfeel is velvety and leaves the palate clean.
Overall a solid example of the style.

Pours nearly pitch black, slightly thick. Smells like stone fruit and raisins with a hint of barrel.
Tastes exactly like it smells. Slightly sweet, stone fruit and raisins. Small amount of barrel.
Normally I'm a barrel forward guy, but this mix is a different path to perfection for the style for me.

2023 Vintage
12.7oz bottle poured into a snifter
A- pours deep brown in color with a one-finger foamy off white head that disappears immediately, leaving nothing behind
S- caramel, toffee & brown sugar on the nose initially, followed by brown bread, stewed figs & raisins. As it warms, the bourbon barrel emerges, adding spicy oak, vanilla and barrel juice
T- sweet caramel malt up front gives notes of brown sugar and toffee, followed by dark fruit notes of figs, raisins and dark cherries. Mid-palate brings out oaky bourbon barrel that gives some peppery spice and barrel juice. The finish gives more caramel and brown sugar, with a linger of barrel
M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel that turns slightly syrupy into a warming finish

Picked up a 2022 edition at the brewery in Athens on 5-24-23 for $11.99. Consumed 4-28-24.
Beer poured murky garnet-brown with a smallish head that did not retain well.
Nose is very nice, notes of figs, vanilla, and bourbon are present.
Taste is nicely done as the malt base gives some toffee and raisins while the barrel brings a subtle heat but no distinct characteristics.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth.
Overall a solid BA barleywine. Glad i got to try this!

8 ball black with brown edges under a short and slanted tan head.
A nose of sharp, splintery charred oak meets all the caramels featuring a little outward milkiness.
Taste swirls bourbon in with the caramels, though in good measure, without any overwhelming heat. The barrel adds a little black pepper to the Cow Tales, as well as a touch of sassafras.

One of the worst statements in the English language, “It is what it is.” And well, that’s Monolith - a Barleywine aged in bourbon barrels, so it’s also kind of stout-like in a way. I don’t know… Pretend a cardinal nailed a blue jay. Purple is what you get. Think of Barney, what have you. Yes. This beer is a product of, “It is what it is.”
