Decatur Wine & Spirits

Nifty little shop that opened last year in Decatur, Decatur Wine & Spirits has a fairly decent beer selection. The usual suspects of a good beer store: Sweetwater, Terrapin, Highland, Dogfish & Victory, Ommegang and several Belgians (La Fantome). 6-pack of Golden Monkey set me back $10.49. Owner (I think) is pretty nice and told me about a new lambic seasonal that Victory will be unleashing.
Like the name says, the store has a huge selection of licker & wine.
Getting to the store can be a little tricky at the funky intersection of Scott Blvd/Church St & Dekalb Industrial.

This is a great place near the Emory campus. Their beer and whiskey selection is varied and satisfying (who drinks wine?). I always find a surprise whenever I drop in.

 

 

 

This is my go-to place. I'm in there once or twice a week, building a six pack from singles. Their floor space is a bit cramped, but they fit quite a good selection in that small space. Plenty of good craft beers, solid imports, some Belgian stuff. Maybe you won't find the rarest of the rare, but they've got plenty to satisfy most BA's. Some of the beers have the BA score displayed.

The prices are right where they should be, and the guys are always friendly, helpful, and fairly knowledgeable.

I'm somewhat new to the area and live close by to this shop. I had never gone in though, most likely because of the unassuming exterior and the fact that it isn't on the way home from work like several other shops. However, I drove by last night and thought I'd stop by to see what their selection was like.

Well I think this will be my "go to" shop now. I am sucker for the build your own six pack, so naturally I'm a fan of the new mostly singles setup. Their selection wasn't the biggest I've ever seen, but large for the amount of space available and definitely respectable. I didn't get anything to extravagant on this trip, but loved that I was able to build a Heavy Seas Cannon six pack for just under $9 (before tax)... 2 each of Dubbel Cannon, Black Cannon, and Loose Cannon.

I've been a customer for the past few years and view this as my goto place for hot releases I don't have the time to drive to HopCity for. They're always very helpful, their selection does range all over the place and often they will hold back a hot offering to place out on the shelf as a surprise later for regular customers. I once picked up a couple bottles of Sweetwater 2006 DonkeyPunch long after it had left the shelves (still have one) ! Plus supporting small local businesses rather than large chains makes sense to me.

I went here over the weekend for the first time. I heard that this is a good shop to go to if the items I'm searching for are long gone from the other stores.

The selection is okay for the state, but there were no spectacular finds. It has slow turnover so I was able to find some of the previous season's Terrapin Rye Squarred which was a nice find. However, there's noting rare there or at least when I went. It's a decent shop.

The clerk was very helpful and was knowledgeable about the beer I was buying. It didn't expect that because the beer selection seems so standard.

The beer is tucked in the back corner away from the light.

No sale of single 12oz, but I don't know what they would split up to sell.

I've been here a few times - mostly to catch some beers that disappeared quickly from the major stores

The beer selection is pretty average for the state, and is packed tight in the back corner of the store. Very random organization, with beer literally just everywhere back there. All the locals, your standard big east coast breweries (like Dogfish and Victory), along with the bigger European imports and an occasional surprise beer.

Turnover here can be a bit slow - which can work to one's advantage if you're lucky! I was able to score some >1 year old Red Brick porter for $6, a good deal and an already-aged beer :) I haven't bought a ton here, but I would certainly pay close attention to dates, since it seems like I'm the only one even looking at the beer every time I stop in.

Decent little shop, though its not really close to me, so I rarely have incentive to go. Nothing to go out of your way for.

Quality is good. All the beer is near the back of the store and away from light. I saw a few old bottles there but none that would suffer from extended age.

Service was good. The person at the counter was very friendly if a bit odd.

Selection was solid. It isn't as expansive as some of the other big stores in the area (Green's, Tower, and Hop City) however a few gems stick out. Jolly Pumpkin beers out of season are there along with a solid selection of Belgians - Maredsous, Rochefort, Orval, etc. I also noticed some TJ Hooker and Tommyknocker beers that I'm not used to seeing.

Prices were average - some beers were more expensive while some were cheaper than what I'm used to seeing.

Overall this place isn't worth going out of your way for but if it's close by you probably won't be disappointed if you stop by.

I finally checked this place out after receiving a tip from the Beer Forum (Thanks to member Georgiabeer)! This place is not Greens or Toco, but they have a very thoughtful selection. Very clean store and very friendly staff. The guy behind the counter spoke with me at length and was excited about beer, always a plus. Some unusual Belgian finds and a decent selection of American craft beers. This little shop will be on my rotation when I am looking for Jolly Pumpkin beers and other obscure finds. The only problems I see are limited parking and it's on a busy intersection.

Stopped in here to take a look on my way out of town and was pleasantly surprised. I thought this would be your fairly typical but was pleasantly surprised as they had more then a decent selection. Most of the regional and locals were very well represented and they seemed to have a decent selection of Belgians as well. The prices were a little bit higher then what I had seen around time but it was not that bad. Overall this was a decent little stop and if I lived down here would probably stop in a lot more frequently. But just for driving down here, I will stick with Green’s, the one stop shop for the area.
