After trying internet order and one other local homebrew shop, the later which I will never shop at agian, DIY came recomended from a fellow homebrewer. The owner Mike has been the biggest help with answering all, and I mean alot, of the questions from begginer to advanced homebrewer questions.
He carries the basic beer and wine making supplies, however can get you anything you want within very reasonable time.
His prices are within range of the big online homebrew stores, but his advice is priceless. I've had great success with his all-grain kits he's put together. All grains are fresh and milled as you wait.
Well worth the drive from anywhere in western mass. You will be rewarded with a sample of his own delicious homebrew!

Went in for the first time today. Being new to homebrewing, and with a ton of questions, a was sure, like in most specialty shops for various hobbies and interests, I would be "talked down to" or simply told things to make me happy and push me along the way. This was not the case. Both Nick and Mike spoke with me for hours - literally. They set me up right with the products I was looking for to fill an "immediate need" to satisfy me until my other equipment arrives in a few weeks.
They were great, a pleasure to talk to, and I super willing to share their knowledge. I look forward to enrolling in their classes and making frequent visits to DIY.
EDIT: I've been back multiple times since as my knowledge keeps increasing and I have more and more questions. Awesome guys with a love of the craft. I also took the beginners course - it was extremely informative (even with a few batches under my belt) providing both the "why we do each step" and practical tips for making ourselves better and more efficient brewers.

As brewers we have literally hundreds of choices on the internet of where to buy ingredients and supplies. More often than not, you can search out what you need and find the best price possible and save a few dollars for your effort. But these savings come at a cost - no face to face transactions. Enter the value of DIY Brewing. Mike and Nick are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and very willing to give tips and advice regardless of your brewing ambitions. And that, my friends, is priceless. The selection is always strong and ever rotating. Highly recommended.

This is a great shop. Super friendly people working there with a lot of knowledge and good suggestions for a first time brewer. Totally willing to answer any questions you have. The shop is nice and spacious with plenty of ingredients to brew a batch. Invited me to their homebrewers club as well. I was so impressed I brought in 2 friends a few days later to purchase some supplies. Met another brewer who frequents the shop who let us try some mead he had made. Overall the atmosphere, knowledge, service and selection are top notch.

I just started brewing 6 months ago. Bought a starter kit from another shop, one item wasn't available at the time of purchase. Then I went shopping at 3 other hbs they all had the missing item but i just didn't feel the love. Then I finally found DIY and thank god I did. Mike loves beer and his customers. Everything you need is there or can be ordered at a fair price. Kits and custom recipes, 20-30+ malts, adjunts, spices, wine kits, a fridge and freezer stuffed with goodies.I didn't know squat 6 months ago, now I'm double decotion mashing, batch sparging and CF wort chilling. I love beer, BA and DIY Brewing.
Check it out for yourself.
Mike keep up the good wort!

DIY is the place to go for your homebrewing(and wine making) needs. From ingredients to equipment it's all there and at very reasonable prices. I think the best thing about it is the customer service that Mike the ownwer gives to everyone that walks in to his store. I've been in numerous times loaded with questions to ask him and he is happy to answer all of them. Although I have'nt been to any yet he often teaches classes right there in the store just check out his calendar on the DIY website. Make sure to stop and check this place out.

I bought regularly from DIY online before they opened their storefront in Ludlow. Even then the owner, Mike, made himself available for invaluable consultations about my brewing process. I'm a better brewer today because of my contact with him. Now that he's opened his store in Ludlow, Mike's made himself even more accessible. His prices are fair, and when you shop his store you get a bonus that every homebrewer needs: free expert consultation.
Besides being a skilled brewer, Mike is also a microbiologist, so his insights into the process of brewing are precise. He's up-to-date on all the latest brewing technology and holds regular brewing classes at his shop.
I used to shop at another homebrewing supply shop in the Valley, but it always seemed as if I was bothering them whenever I asked questions. Not so at DIY -- it's obvious that Mike loves the art and science of brewing and he enjoys helping other brewers improve their own brewing.
The DIY store in Lulow is pretty small, but it's well stocked. If they don't have what you need in the store, they will order it for you. I still place my orders online, and when I get to the shop all my grain is crushed and the order's ready to go.

I visited Mike's Store in Ludlow and was treated with a wide array of specialty grains (some I had never even heard of). His Prices rival Northern Brewer(even cheaper if you show up in person, no shipping!).
Mike is quick to help you with any brewing issues that you may have. From yeast suggestions to grain bill adjustments. Mike seems to have a wide knowledge base in brewing and offers advice enthusiastically.
I recommend him for your brewing supply needs. Between price, service and convenience, there is no reason to go elsewhere.

I have to admit, if it wasn't for Mike opening up in my hometown of Ludlow, then I'd probably still be telling stories of my homebrew stories from when I last brewed back in Glasgow, Scotland, 15+ years ago. DIY Brewing opened over a year ago in Ludlow, MA, and has been a godsend for Western Mass homebrewers. For me, Mike re-ignited a passion for brewing and, as someone else has already mentioned, his advice is priceless. I've been there when Mike is kitting out the absolute novice (and I've sent him a couple his way) and I've been there when some seasoned vets are out brewing batches in the front of the store. Besides homebrew batch kits, I've bought a sake kit from DIY as well as hop rhizomes that are growing in my yard as I type. Simply put, Mike loves beer, Mike knows beer, and DIY Brewing allows Mike to share this love with anyone who goes there.

I was in need of a homebrew shop closer to home, then heard of DIYbrewing in Ludlow, MA.
The shop is local for me, and availability of picking up supplies and orders is very good. The owner will even go out of his way to make sure you get your supplies when you need them. I personally have not used his shipping, since I live so close...so can't comment.
His selection is very good, his site is rather easy to navigate and anything he doesn't have listed on his site he can most likely get for you within a week's time. He will also help create custom extract/all-grain kits if you request them.
It is nice having this resource in the Western, Mass area. Nevermind the excellent advice from a follow brewer and BJCP judge.
