Grandview Carry Out

I'm not sure why this place gets such low marks... I liked it better than the famous Kenny Road Market!

The story goes likes this... my wife and I went to Barley's Smokehouse; they had a beer for sale I wanted to try but was not available for take-out. The nice bartender told me I could just go to Grandview Carry Out around the corner, and so we did.

We did not find the beer I was looking for, but I did find plenty of other good crafty stuff. Really nice selection!

Great Divide, Bells (including 25th Anniv), Founders (including Breakfast), Dark Horse, Dogfish, Stone, Weyerbacher... and many more. Also English ales like Thomas Hardy, of which I bought a bottle.

This place has a whole big refrigerated aisle filled with quality brews! How can this be less than a 4.0?

I like that they sell single bottles, but I don't like the high price on them. I do like the service, nice friendly dude with two cats, ready to help you, knows his beer.

Sure, you will not find super rarities here (for that, I would go to The Andersons), and the prices are not so hot, but if you live near this place, you ought to come here. This sure is a FINE shop!!

Nice little corner store in a pleasant area of town, good place to stop for Columbus brews. In addition to a good selection of wines, they offer a wide range of craft beers including locals, regional/national brands, and imports. Almost all of the beer stock is refrigerated. Overall, worth a stop.

 

 

 

 

 

This seems to have gone downhill recently. The shelves are never stocked, and nothing good is ever available, only old outdated inventory. On top of that, if the owner doesn't recognize you he generally won't sell you anything he considers rare unless you're there on a regular basis and he recognizes you. He says a total of 2 words the entire time, the total cost and bye, plus the whole place smells odd.

My wife and I were directed to Grandview Carry Out by the good folks at Barley's Smokehouse.

Nice clean store. The beer was a bit spread out, but nothing too bad. The giant cat was cool.

We were specifically looking for some local beers, and Grandview came through. Columbus Brewing and Elevator were well represented, including Horny Goat 4 packs from Elevator.The rest of the beer selection appeared to be top notch as well, with Cleveland being well represented.

Would definately return if in the area.

Fantastic selection of beers in this joint, saw a lot of beers I haven't seen in some other places in Columbus.

Selection of singles is good, not the "typical" ones you find. The prices tend to be a little steep on the singles but no moreso than say, Anderson's, this was one of only two places where I saw a St. Bernardus Abt 12 single, and the price here was the same as the other place, so I consider that a victory.

I didn't think the pricing seemed to be that bad. Some of the beers maybe have been 50 cents to a dollar more per six pack, but I didn't see anything too high, and even saw a few sixers here cheaper. Most of the beers tended to be right in line with what I would expect at Weiland's, Whole Foods, etc.

The service was great, the owner knows his beer and even after I finished my purchase, he showed me through the store and gave me some recommendations, as well as some of the other beers he expects to get in.

Overall, I thought this was a great beer store, definitely recommend it.

I popped in here because I was in the area passing by.
From the outside it looks like its going to be just another shitty little carryout. Inside it is surprisingly nice. Everything is well organized, clean, new looking and well kept. This store focuses more on beer and wine than it does on cheap snacks, lotto tickets and cigarettes.

The whole center of the store is filled with nice wine racks. Its a nice touch as opposed to crappy shelving.

The beer is mostly kept in the line of coolers along the back wall. First thing I saw were bombers of Stone but nothing out of the ordinary. Moving along I noticed a couple doors of singles here and there, 6 packs, mixed cases and more bombers. Nothing really stood out to me though.

I was, however, surprised to see a few selections from the standard Alesmith line tucked away at the bottom of a cooler that was all by itself.

I have to call this place 'a bit pricey' because there is an $8 minimum if you are going to be using a card as payment. I wanted to pop in and walk out with a simple bomber of something. Mostly just to check the place out. Instead I had to get an extra bottle that I was not expecting.

In closing, this is a nice, neat little place. Good to have in Grandview but not otherwise really worth a visit.

Grandview Carry Out is located at the corner of Grandview and 3rd and the building is attached to Cowtown Pizza. There is a small private lot plus nearby street parking.

The interior is a typical wine/beer/liquor store and is laid out well, as well as giving off a tidy appearance. The beer is in the rear of the store and is located primarily in coolers. There are some bottles and cases here and there at room temperature.

The beer selection is pretty good. Domestic brewers like Stone, Bell's (they had Hopslam), Great Lakes, Buckeye, Rogue, Two Brothers and Warbird were represented. There were also some imports from the usual suspects in the UK and Germany primarily.

Service was good on a Monday early evening. The shopkeep was friendly and made sure to ask if we were looking for anything in particular. Plus he had a kitty cat in the store which earned big points with my wife.

Overall this store is on par with about anything in the Grandview area selection-wise, and is worth checking out.
