what a terribly misguided mess of a beer

A: Pours a cloudy pale golden yellow in color with heavy amounts of active visible carbonation and moderate beige highlights. The beer has a four finger tall fizzy sudsy foamy beige head that reduces to small patch of thin film surrounded by a medium thick film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of tart acidic kombucha/green tea with moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit rind, citrus/grapefruit hops, and gin-like juniper berries.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of earthy kombucha and green tea with a light hint of fruit (apple/pear) sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of citrus/grapefruit rind and hops - citrus/grapefruit and herbal seem to stand out. Finally there is a lingering juniper berry/gin flavor that lingers slightly in the finish.

M: Medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of acidic prickliness and a hint of dryness in the finish.

O: This one is almost a gusher which is not unexpected when dealing with kombucha and has a head that can get a bit out of control if you are not careful when pouring it. This is an odd flavor combination as it reminds me of a mixture of gin, hops, and kombucha - not sure I would have another of these.

I like Unity Vibration's other offerings, and I like kombucha in general. This, though, does not work and is offensive. I was excited to taste it after enjoying their other kombucha beers, but the KPA with the extra hops or whatever else they do makes for a nasty concoction. Skip this and try their ginger or bourbon peach, which are quite nice.

Poured from 16.9 ounce bottle. Explosive champagne-like carbonation; it's fizzy with citrus, gin, and green tea aromas with a little sour smell.

Crackly fizzy head (crackly noises), not a creamy kind of head. Sort of an opaque bamboo color.

Fruit and tea flavor and lively carbonation predominate. If it's 7% it doesn't taste like it. Light but a strong flavor. More a sipping than a gulping kind of drink and I think I like it better after it sits for awhile.

Has an aftertaste almost like ginger beer.

It's eclectic but well modulated. I think I'd like it better if it said it was about 4% ABV.

Well crafted and worth a try I would say.

I'll preface this review by saying that I enjoy and regularly drink kombucha. I know by definition, this is not technically beer, but it was at my local bottle shop and it raised my interest.

I tried several Unity flavors, and some were boozy messes that smelled of nail polish remover. This was by far the best of the varieties that I tasted.

Poured from a 16.9oz bottle. It was a cloudy blonde. No head, decent carbonation.

There was some hop aroma, and some overripe fruit.

It was surprisingly effervescent and sweet with a bitter, herbal, hoppy finish. Not bad, sort of like hopped champagne.

The alcohol was much more hidden in this offering compared to the Ginger and Bourbon Peach flavors.

If you like kombucha and are open minded about the definition of beer, I'd recommend it.

Once again I'm not sure why Unity Vibration is even listed on beeradvocate - dry hopping tea does not magically make beer. Also, this is disgusting and anyone that doesn't know what they are doing can make better kombucha than this for less than the cost of the bottle.

Hazy, urine-colored. Very still.
A little citrus aroma.
More taste than the aroma implied. Grapefruit mostly, subtle gin taste.
Just not a good beer.
