Meat & Potatoes was my first destination during my latest visit to Pittsburgh.
Located on bustling Penn Avenue, it is co-located in a newer midrise that also hosts a theater troupe.
There is a large marble topped center bar. It's the dominate feature of the main room and must sit about 30.
The pace has high ceilings, exposed ductwork, cool pendant lighting, lots of use of blackboard paint and a curved wall of mirrors. There is also have a concrete floor, wood butcher block tables and a private dining room. They spent some money aiming for country cool and they succeeded
There is an outside patio both facing the street and along the west side.
There was nice crowd for midweek. I sat at the bar which was a good choice.
I counted 5 rotating drafts and about 30 bottle and canned choices. Would have like to see a few more local options. They also offer a decent wine list and high end cocktails.
Service was friendly but went AWOL at times. At least they knew their beer. It did get better as the night went on, but that was one area where they could improve.
Food is good. Lots of gastro pub options like bone marrow, fried Brussel sprouts, poutine, etc. Good burgers, flat breads and some nice pork and fish options. Check out their menu as it describes the food better than I can...
I would have no problem going back but there is some good competition close by, so they have to keep their A game working.
