Alfie's is the latest addition to the craft-beer scene in Hell's Kitchen, occupying what used to be Chef Eric Hara's 9 Restaurant. The inside looks like your standard pub/beer bar, with lots of wood, the customary brick walls... nice that there only two TV's, and the massive open windows onto 9th Avenue bring in some great light.

Great polished-wood bar, uncommon... and let me emphasize the stunning selection of bourbons! Including Vintage 17, Rip Van Winkle and Stranahan's.

As for beer, there are 20 taps here, divided among two sections of the bar: Smutty IPA, Allagash White, Ommegang Rare VOS, Dogfish 90, Racer 5, Saison Dupont, Cane&Ebel... locals like Greenport Harbor and Kelso. And Stone IRS!

Service was good, if a bit unengaged. Fair prices ($7 average) and big pours, except for that Stone IRS that clocks in at $10 for 10 ounces and the Saison Dupont which is $12.

We wanted to have food but -on a Sunday morning-, only brunch was available and we were not interested. Next time I will try the pork belly and the black-kale caesar salad.

I look forward to coming back to Alfie's!

I visited this restaurant/bar with some family members while in NYC for a quick visit. We were out and about in the Hell's Kitchen area in the early afternoon, and this place was listed on BA (good for me!) and also sounded good for food. Comfortable neighborhood bistro/bar feel. Great service. Not crowded at late lunchtime on a Saturday. They had 20 beers on tap, mostly from NYC and the region. I got one I had never tried before, so it was a good stop for me. The whole party was very impressed with the food. They even had tasty, original cocktails, if you are with people who are not interested in the beer. Overall, this was a great find in NYC.

I stopped by for long late lunch last week. It was kind of an dreary overcast day, but Alfie's was bright, warm and welcoming.

The service was friendly and since they weren't overly busy, they really took time to talk to the customers.

The have a midday happy hour with discounts on select beers, wine and cocktails. Beer selection is fine with mostly regional offerings. I had no issue getting a few beers I don't encounter in the Midwest.

Food was very good. My burger was outstanding and rest of my group enjoyed their choices.

Great stop if you are in the neighborhood.

Good list with some surprise guest stars. Great bartenders. Nice chill vibe. Gets crowded on occasion.

Stumbled across this place as we wandered along 9th Ave down from Central Park back towards our ship. Really impressed with the place.

Fairly empty on a sunny yet very cold Friday afternoon (18 Jan 2013). I am trying to drink beers from every state (and country), so seeing the list of draughts I asked the two ladies serving which state the beers came from. They didn't know, but opened up a laptop and found out for me, how helpful is that! They even suggested that I went over to Valhalla to see if they had any new states for me (they didn't), Valhalla is 50 yards away across 9th Ave.

The four beers I had were all different and in good condition and came from Smuttynose, Ommegang, Allagash and River Horse. One or two of them were on 'special', so cost a lot less, a chalk board advertised the fact up high above the bar.

Didn't eat but others around did and it looked fine.
