Incredibly spongey and often layered with fruit, the French gateau is the cake you serve when you're aiming to impress. With this confection in mind, It was a no-brainer to marry chocolate and raspberries for the Valentine's Day addition to our Dessert Series, Raspberry Chocolate Gateau.

Brewed with raspberries, chocolate, vanilla, and lactose, Raspberry Chocolate Gateau presents a deep brown with a formidable haze due to the use of 100% real fruit. The aroma is reminiscent of freshly picked raspberries drizzled in chocolate. Fudgy cake batter, vanilla cream, and decadent chocolate frosting emerge after the first sip. Medium-bodied, with a velvety mouthfeel, Raspberry Chocolate Gateau is rich, yet remains highly drinkable throughout the glass.

Pours solid silky dark brown. Aroma is winey chocolate with a whiff of berry fruit. The taste is very smooth and rich liquid chocolate with a light raspberry liquor flavor, so it is boozy but not bitter. And by rich I mean very rich, like drinking from a fondue pot. This is a sublime but too heavy to have on your own. Great for sharing as a dessert treat.

Pours very dark with flotsam and chunks. Amazing aroma of raspberry and chocolate. Taste follows nose: big blast of chocolate covered raspberry, tangy and delicious. A bit on the thin side. Overall a delicious beer.

This beer tastes better than sex. It's flourless chocolate raspberry ganache in a glass.

A Stout that is dominated by raspberry is the first thing that pops to mind here...everything else is secondary. From that basis, it's kinda one note and really not bad if you like that kinda thing - I personally would have preferred much more chocolate. The mouthfeel was medium; a tad thinner than the usual Trillium Stout but not bad. Smelled like raspberry, and had a bit of a creamy head at the beginning which settled; otherwise a non remarkable stouty appearance. Overall I enjoyed this but it's really just a non remarkable fruited Stout.

Pours dark brown with a dissipating head. Smells like fresh chocolate, raspberries, raspberry jelly, chocolate cake, some vanilla, lactose, frosting, chocolate cream, and mild earthy hops. Tastes like fresh raspberries, chocolate cake, chocolate cream, raspberry jelly, fresh chocolate, some vanilla, lactose, with mild earthy hops and lingering chocolate raspberry notes. Feels medium bodied, smooth with moderate carbonation. Overall a really great chocolate raspberry imperial stout.
