Freaky Friday is a concept created by our friends at Other Half and The Veil because, "The world is weird right now, so we thought we'd roll with it." While in-person collaborations are not an option at this time, joining the party on recipe swapping is a creative alternative.
For our third Freaky Friday release, we swapped hoppy offerings with our West Coast friends at Monkish. We took on their Triple Dry-Hopped (!!) Foggiest Window here in Canton and they brewed DDH Vicinity in LA.
Presenting a pale, deep yellow color reminiscent of our most ridiculously-hopped Double and Triple IPAs, Foggiest Window's hop bill of Citra, Nelson, and Galaxy wastes no time in attacking the palate. Aromas of juicy pineapple, sticky mango, and ruby red grapefruit fill the room as soon as the can is cracked. The palate follows with a smile-inducing blend of tropical goodness. With a mild bitter profile and a touch of sweetness in perfect balance, Foggiest Window finishes creamy, full-bodied, and hop saturated.

L - pours the milkiest shade of mango skin I ever did saw. Minimal head that I attempt to encourage with a little extra vigor in my pour, but alas, it dies down to literally nothing in seconds. That does bring out a nice pinkish hue though.
S - green and underripe. Lemon-lime, papaya, and pineapple zest. Orange rind, satsuma, and a hint of grapey bubblegum. Finishes with a touch of hop resin and green onions.
T - lively and acidic, but not burning, something I was fearing after Trillium's recent batches of, well, pretty much everything. I suspect this one'll burn a bit more as it warms and I pour the rest of the can. Fresh ice water and pink grapefruit. Sweet honey and candied guava. Apple juice? Herbaceous and crisp hoppiness. Nectarine juiciness and iced OJ. Touch of pulp. Resiny while still bright. White grapefruit. Finishes neutral with mild grassiness.
F - airy and inconsistent. I simply can't rate Trillium highly in this category when they continually botch the mouthfeel. I don't know who's asking for it to be like this, but I would question their taste. It's not bad and it's smooth/creamy at first, but do so much as swallow too aggressively and it foams up. Not the good kind of thicc foam like foaming handsoap, but seltzer-esque carbonation that serves only to choke you up and pepper your esophagus with sharp, pointy bubbles.
O - never had Monkish Foggiest Window, so I can't compare, but this is boilerplate Trillium (albeit higher tier). Hit all the right flavor notes with careful balance between fruit, ripeness, and raw hoppiness. Only downside is the mouthfeel, but I'll get over it. Otherwise up there with Headroom and the like.

Fresh can courtesy of yllib. ~1 wk old from brewery.
L: pure orange juice with white head that dissipates quickly.
S: Stonefruit, cantaloupe, grapefruit.
T: stonefruit/nectarines, orange juice, citrus Grapefruit resiny bitterness. Touch of dank. Touch of hop burn.
F: juicy and fairly thick. I keep thinking I’ll find pulp or pine needles at the bottom.
Overall: A signature trillium/monkish style ipa. Balls to the wall dry-hopping and a lot of bitterness to balance the tropical juice. Which is necessary or it would be sunny delight.

Drank from a 1 pint (16 fl. oz.) can purchased at Trillium Brewing Company, Boston, MA
09/03/20
Served in a tulip
Completely opaque, straw yellow appearance. Even with a fairly aggressive pour, there was absolutely no head nor any visible carbonation. This looked identical to a glass of Tropicana orange juice.
The aroma was amazingly hoppy and bold. Tropical fruit notes leapt from the glass. Passionfruit came through big time. Loads of ripe mango too. Sweet peach notes were also apparent. Bit of juicy orange and grapefruit as well. Touch of dankness.
The flavor profile was quite different from the nose. Citrus dominated. White grapefruit was definitely most prominent. The grapefruit turned more pithy and rind-like as it moved along the palate. Fairly resiny and bitter. Loads of tart, tangy kumquat too. Orange peel was also noticeable. Pineapple came through in the center. Touch of mango. The beer finished with even more pithy citrus rind and bitterness.
The mouthfeel was somewhat lackluster. Thinner in body for the style with minimal carbonation. This bordered on semi-flat. The liquid contained a super fine effervescence that felt light and airy on the palate.
Twelve days since canning, and this beer is still drinking very green. Apparently that might be the result of triple dry hopping a double IPA. The body also suffered from a lack of carbonation. At least the aroma was phenomenal. With a bit more time, I am hopeful that the flavor profile will come around too.

Canned 5 days ago.
L -- Milky orange haze in the glass with an incredibly fast dissipating finger of head. Looks still and not very appealing
S -- Big green herbaceous notes, along with pulpy grapefruit juice, rubber/tar, melon, lemon sherbert. Very punchy
T -- Again, very heavy on the green herbaceous notes. Bit of spicy white pepper character and some apricot and citrus to round things out. Can I say it again? This beer is greeeeeeen
F -- The usual Trillium prickly carb
O -- A bit heavy-handed on the dry hopping, not really sure whether it accomplishes much in terms of aromas or flavor
79/100

Pours an opaque yellow gold with a quickly dissipating white foam head. Absolutely huge aromas of ripe melons, pineapple, yellow mango, white grapefruit, orange peel, citrus pith, hint of oaty malts, and some green earthy floral dank resinous pine. Tastes really fresh right now, similar intense tropical fruit notes of melon, pineapple, mango, grapefruit, orange citrus, citrus pith, lime, white grape, hints of creamy oat malt, with mildly spicy green dank resinous floral earthy pine. Feels soft and smooth, medium-full bodied, creamy with moderate carbonation. Overall a really great triple dry-hopped NEDIPA.
